The Staple Skirt by Winter Wear Designs

I've had this pattern since release. I've wanted to make it since release, but kept putting it off. Why? Because I knew it would take a little while to sew. I'm going to be honest though, it took a little while, but didn't take a long time. I really should have made it before now!

With Suzanne announcing the Sew Yourself Some Love Blog Tour, I decided that now is the perfect time to make this pattern I've been waiting to find time to make!

This is my Staple Skirt by Winter Wear Designs. I'm glad I finally made it! I love it so much!

Let's talk about this pattern:

This pattern is designed for non-stretch fabrics. You could use a denim or a twill or similar fabric without stretch or with a maximum of about 10% stretch.

It comes with a great tutorial with drawings or photos to explain every step.

There is a size chart with instructions on how to choose your size and what to do to get your best fit. You can choose which length you would like. There are 3 options - above the knee, at the knee, or below the knee. There are real, functioning pockets and a zip fly. You can choose to add belt loops, if you would like.

The skirt is not the quickest sew ever, but it is not difficult to make either. If you're willing to spend a little time and follow the instructions, anyone could successfully make it!

My Skirt:

I chose a lightweight denim from Hobby Lobby for my skirt. My fabric does not have any stretch. I made the at the knee length for my skirt. My hips measured one size larger than my waist, however in the tutorial, it explains that the skirt has a slight a-line shape, so unless your hips are more than one size larger, you can just go by the waist size and not blend sizes. So, that's what I did. I'm pretty happy with the fit.

I didn't find the exact length zipper required for this skirt, but the tutorial explains how to shorten a zipper. It's very easy.

The pockets were easy to put together, and look so nice! There are instructions for when to add a stitching design to the back pockets, if you choose to do that.

I needed something to pair with my skirt... So I decided to make a new tank top! I tested the Winter Wear Designs layering tank last month, and loved it, so I made a new one to pair with the skirt. It's a great pattern. You can click here to read all about my experiences with this pattern! It's a great pattern, and it is a Wardrobe Builder pattern, so you can get the Starting Point tank for only $5 always!

Breaking Ground... FINALLY trying out Itch To Stitch

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Itch To Stitch Patterns, and I've been meaning to try them out. In fact, I may own one or two, but have never sewed them. When I heard about this "Breaking Ground" Blog Tour, I knew it was the perfect time to try out one of these designers that I've been wanting to try, but apparently haven't had the motivation to sew. I had a scrap of this liverpool left over that I really love, so I had to find the perfect thing to make. I remembered seeing this cute petal pencil skirt on the Itch To Stitch site. It looked easy enough, and would be perfect for my fabric, so I thought, "Why not start with that?" **This post may contain my affiliate links. A Double Release from Pattern Emporium

I get so excited about new patterns. 😊 One of my favorite designers is releasing TWO new patterns together this month, and I'm thrilled to share about them! **Disclosure: I have included my affiliate links to the patterns used for this post. You can choose whether you like the flared tee or the banded tee. The flared tee features a slightly flared silhouette with three length options (cropped, regular, or long).  The banded option also has a slightly flared silhouette gathered into a waistband. It also has a couple of lengths - for the hemband to sit on the waist or the hips.  Both versions can be made with several necklines- three different rounded necklines, a v neckline, or a squared neckline. They both have several options for sleeve lengths or two choices for sle...

January Releases from Amelia Lane Designs

I always get so excited about new fabric releases from Amelia Lane Designs. Frequently, they give me the opportunity to sew something I might not otherwise and try something new. I have learned a lot sewing for them, like how to sew swim and athletic wear. But I've also learned that I actually LIKE wearing fun prints and designs that I haven't always worn.  ** Disclosure: I have included affiliate links to patterns used in this post. There have been a few releases recently with fun animal-print fabrics, and I have not sewn any of them, because I thought I wouldn't like wearing them. But after seeing some of the other sewists in the ALD Facebook Group sharing their makes, I knew I HAD to try it! I am really glad I did. This dress makes me so happy! This fabric is a d...
