The Ellie and Mac Curved Hem Tank

I had this fabric on hand planning to make something for my mama. I generally overthink things I'm making for other people.

My mama wasn't picky - she just wanted something to wear to stay cool. This fabric is perfect for that. We decided that I'd make her a tank, because she already has several short sleeve tees. The only thing she asked was if I had a pattern with a curved hem. She has a couple of store bought tanks that have curved hems, and she likes them. I like curved hems too - they're very flattering!

So, I did what I do -- I scoured through all of the patterns I own (and some I don't own) looking for the perfect tank. Sometimes I feel like I spend more time trying to decide what to sew than I actually do sewing it!

I remembered seeing Mya, one of the owners of Amelia Lane Designs, who made a blog post comparing several tanks. I remember liking the way her Ellie and Mac Curved Hem Tank fit her. So I showed it to my mama, and decided to give it a try.

The pattern is for a basic tank with a pocket, curved hemline, and binding. I left off the pocket. The back of the tank is shaped with a seam down the center back.

The pattern comes with a broad range of sizes - all the way to a 6XL. It is a quick and easy sew.

The Fit:

I chose her size based on her measurements and the chart, rather than RTW size.

This tank is a little more fitted on her at the shoulders and bust. It has more ease at the waist and hips. The straps are wide enough to cover regular bra straps.

The fabric is one of the new scorpion fabrics available this week at Amelia Lane Designs. They have it in stock in three colors presently (white, pink, purple). The pink and purple are both so bright and vibrant - very beautiful colors!

The fabric is a lightweight athletic. It is very soft and drapey. It is perfect for flowy tops, dresses, loose shorts, skirts, etc.

This fabric, along with the other new arrivals, are on sale through Monday (6-29-20)!

Breaking Ground... FINALLY trying out Itch To Stitch

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Itch To Stitch Patterns, and I've been meaning to try them out. In fact, I may own one or two, but have never sewed them. When I heard about this "Breaking Ground" Blog Tour, I knew it was the perfect time to try out one of these designers that I've been wanting to try, but apparently haven't had the motivation to sew. I had a scrap of this liverpool left over that I really love, so I had to find the perfect thing to make. I remembered seeing this cute petal pencil skirt on the Itch To Stitch site. It looked easy enough, and would be perfect for my fabric, so I thought, "Why not start with that?" **This post may contain my affiliate links. Look at my new skir...

It also has a couple of lengths - for the hemband to sit on the waist or the hips.  Both versions can be made with several necklines- three different rounded necklines, a v neckline, or a squared neckline. They both have several options for sleeve lengths or two choices for sle...

January Releases from Amelia Lane Designs

I always get so excited about new fabric releases from Amelia Lane Designs. Frequently, they give me the opportunity to sew something I might not otherwise and try something new. I have learned a lot sewing for them, like how to sew swim and athletic wear. But I've also learned that I actually LIKE wearing fun prints and designs that I haven't always worn.  ** Disclosure: I have included affiliate links to patterns used in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** For this release, I tried something that is really not me - this fun animal print! There have been a few releases recently with fun animal-print fabrics, and I have not sewn any of them, because I thought I wouldn't like wearing them. But after seeing some of the other sewists in the ALD Facebook Group sharing their makes, I knew I HAD to try it! I am really glad I did. This dress makes me so happy! This fabric is a d...
