The Hepburn Pants by Wardrobe by Me

I've been sewing for about three and a half years, and didn't really even try pants until this year. I wanted to try sooner, but became intimidated when I saw Facebook posts about fit issues, how to adjust patterns, what kinds of fabric worked best, etc. There is so much to take into account when you want sew pants! I got my courage up earlier this year to make my first pair of jeans, and I'm glad I did, because although they are nowhere near perfect, they gave me the courage to try all sorts of new things. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? I think this applies to life AND sewing too! 😉

I honestly don't have that many pairs of pants. I have pants that are YEARS old. Like from WAY before Daniel was born, and then I've got jeans and leggings I've bought since he was born, but the jeans are even getting worn out. Story of a stay at home mama. I just didn't feel like I could justify buying a lot of pants since I'm not working, and since I started sewing, I've gotten REALLY, REALLY picky about fit. Yeah, if they don't fit correctly, they're not worth the $50-$70 to me, and it's really hard to get a perfect fit in store-bought pants.

Then several weeks ago, I saw this beautiful olive green twill fabric on sale at my local Joann's Fabrics. Do you know it was on sale for 70% off because it was labeled as a "summer fabric?" Well, I was smart enough to know that it's a year-round color, so I purchased two yards for about $10 and held it, waiting for the right pattern to come along. And... it did! Meet the "Hepburn Pants."

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it when I saw the tester call for the Wardrobe By Me Hepburn Pants! Straight or wide leg options, zip fly, back welt pockets, belt loops; it's the ultimate trouser pattern. Make them in a nice wool blend, stretch twill or suiting, and you've got the perfect work pants. Make them in a comfy double knit and you've got some comfy pants that look oh-so-classy. Use stretch denim or corduroy and they're perfect for everyday, but still have those little details that set them apart from your regular jeans. See... the ultimate pattern! They can be perfect for whatever you are looking for.

About the Pattern:

This pattern truly is wonderful. It's perfect for a wide array of fabric types. The fabric you use must have a little stretch, however. You can sew either straight or wide leg pants. There are front slant pockets, back welt pockets, belt loops, front fly, and a contoured waistband included in this pattern. You will find wonderful instructions with helpful drawings to get you through every step. The pattern is rated for an intermediate sewist.

Look at those welt pockets! 😍

My Pants:

As I mentioned, I found this twill at Joann's Fabrics for about $5/ yard. It has a small amount of spandex, so is perfect for this pattern. I made a size 6 based on my waist and hip measurements. The fit is perfect. My pants were made using the wide leg version, but I'm looking forward to sewing up another pair with straight legs!

Quick Overview of the Pattern:
  • back welt pockets
  • front slant pockets
  • front zipper fly
  • belt loops
  • two views (wide leg or regular/straight leg)
  • contoured waistband with button closure
  • suitable for woven, bottom-weight fabrics with a bit of stretch or double knits
  • excellent instructions with drawings to explain every step

  1. I just discovered Wardrobe by Me, and was asked to make a soft-shell version of their new mens jacket (I own a performance fabric online store). The patterns are nice. You did a great job!

    1. Thank you! I love the Wardrobe by Me patterns so far! They are all so wonderful! I think I actually discovered your shop the other day through one of the Sewing Bloggers Facebook Groups! I was so tempted to e-mail, but am not familiar with performance fabrics! Maybe one day I'll branch out a bit more! Thanks for commenting! <3

Free and Easy... Sewing the Agnes by Halla!

I love trying new things when it comes to sewing. I love learning new techniques, how to do things different ways, and figuring things out. For the most part, I also enjoy trying new-to-me pattern designers. This was my first ever pattern by Halla  - the AGNES . Yep, I downloaded it a long time ago when it released, but this was my first time ever making it! I downloaded it with intentions of trying it because it was so popular. It may have been popular because it's a FREE pattern (you can get the code to download it in the Halla Facebook Group ), or it may have been really popular because it's FREE and REALLY AWESOME. This blog tour gave me a chance to find out for myself! I participated in this blog tour put together by Kate of  Sewing from Scratch ... the idea is that we would all sew the same pattern, but make it our own. If we love it as is, we sew it as is. If we want a cute bow (Gwen😉), we add a cute bow, if we want to make all the adjustments to get our perfect ...

New Athletic Set - ALD fabrics

Every month, Amelia Lane Designs is featuring a new fabric of the month. The featured fabric type is discounted throughout the entire month! It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! And, the best part is, every time I make something new from athletics, I get motivated to move and exercise!   **Disclosure: I have included affiliate links in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I deci...
