The 5 out of 4 Weekender

I remember seeing the Weekender Tunic when it released. I remember liking it on everyone, but I didn't get the pattern. I have one of those never-ending, always-growing list of sewing projects that I'll get to one day. Then I buy fabric with different sewing projects in mind... are you like me? 😉 Well I finally sewed up the Weekender Tunic this week, and.... um.... Why on Earth did I wait so long?? Y'all this pattern is awesome! It's my new favorite sweater!! **Disclosure: I have included my affiliate link to the patterns I used for this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern from 5 out of 4 using my link, I'll receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** Have you ever had this happen to you? You put off making something, and then you wonder how you've lived without it? Don't get me wrong, I love most of the things I make... but every now and then, I'll try a finished project on, and I get REALLY excited. ...

The Priscilla Top by Mamma Can Do It

I like wearing leggings some days. And when I wear leggings, I need to wear either a dress or a long, tunic length top. It's the most comfortable outfit. I don't have too many tunic length tops for the summer time though, and I jumped at the opportunity to test the new Priscilla Top by Mamma Can Do It! **Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links to the patterns I used. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my affiliate link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you. ** I made two Priscilla Tops during testing. I really love both! Let's Talk About This Pattern : This pattern is drafted for knit fabrics. There is one length included (this long, tunic length). It has a handkerchief style hemline. It is really beautiful and unique! I haven't seen to many other top patterns around lately with this hemline! There are two options for the neckline (and arm holes for the tank version). You can either use regular bands, ...

CKC Tierney's

When I saw this pattern tester call, I REALLY liked the top. I loved the detail on the sleeves. I liked the optional elbow patches. I liked the color blocking options, and I loved that the tee shirt could be all of these things... or just a basic tee, if that's what you need. This is CKC Tierney's! I got this pretty sweater knit from a Knitpop scrap pack a few weeks ago. I already made myself something using it. You can see that here . I had enough of my scrap pieces left to make my sister something too. What is better than trying a new pattern?? Almost nothing. So I used up the rest of my nice sweater fabrics to make my sister a coordinating top! According to her measurements, she fits into a size small. It is perfect on her. I used the color blocked bodice options, and the color blocked the sleeve detail. Her top is the "tunic" length. As you can see, it would be long enough to wear with leggings, if she chooses to do that! Cutting the Pieces After...

My $5 dress! The Sunflower Tank by Mamma Can Do It

Wearing a tank top makes me think of hot weather, being outside, and plenty of sunshine. But, really they're the perfect layering piece and you can wear them ALL THE TIME. They're perfect under cardigans, wonderful for layering under that too-low-cut blouse, and I even wear them to church underneath a blazer in the Winter time. They're definitely a closet- staple. You need a handful of tank tops ready to grab when you decide you want to wear one, right? Well... let me tell you about this little pattern ! This is the Sunflower Tank by Mamma Can Do It . It has plenty of options so that you can make yourself a closet full of tank tops, if your heart desires. 😉 Do you want top length, tunic length, knee length dress, or long dress? Do you want your arms and neckline bound, or do you prefer bands? You've got quite a few ways you can sew this pattern without even thinking about the first "hack." My title suggests that my dress was $5 , so let me tell yo...

From Inspiration to Creation -- the Magnolia by Winter Wear Designs!

I've never owned a cowl neck top. Until this week, I had never made one, and I'm pretty sure I've never bought one. I'm beginning to learn that my previous wardrobe might have been slightly dull. 🤣 Mostly basic tees and church dresses! But, I'm stepping out and trying new things! So for this month's Winter Wear Designs Blog Tour, the theme was "Hack-a-Thon." I would need to "hack" a Winter Wear Designs pattern to make my vision a reality! I visited Pinterest and Google Images for inspiration. I felt like I wanted to do something with a cowl neck, but what would I do? My Inspiration: I searched Pinterest and Google Images for ideas. I searched sweaters, swing dresses, cowl necks to see if I could get some inspiration for my next sew. I saved quite a few to a women's sewing inspiration board I have.  Here are a few of my inspiration photos: This is a beautiful, striped, cowl neckline sweater from Poshmark. Then...

The Xanadu Dolman by Pickle Toes Patterns

I like sewing dolman style tops. They're fast, easy to put together, no inset sleeves to worry with. I have a secret though... I've never worn one with long sleeves. I have only used the "short sleeve" that is part of the main bodice pattern. So, I wasn't sure if I would like the "sleeves." Well, I saw the Pickle Toes Xanadu Dolman and all the options that it came with, and I was in love with the pattern. 😍 I had to have one! And since we are headed into fall, I knew that either 3/4 or long sleeves would be my friend. It was inevitable... I had to try it, and hopefully I would like it. The Pattern:  You can see the listing to purchase the pattern here . This is a beautiful dolman style top with many options you can choose from. The pattern includes a beautiful yoke with gathered neckline - so different from most of the other knit patterns you'll find. The options you can choose from when sewing this pattern are a regular straight hem (that ...

Out of My Comfort Zone -- CKC Jayla's

I've never worn a cold shoulder top before. I see other women wearing them, and they're cute, but not for me, right? I had some misconception that they were really more for the kids and teenagers, and I haven't had a cold shoulder pattern really capture my attention before. I've made one cold shoulder top for my 13 year old cousin previously, but that's it. That was it, until I saw the newest cold shoulder top by CKC Patterns. Meet CKC Jayla's . You want to know what got my attention? The hemline. I completely stepped outside of my comfort zone and tested a cold shoulder top because of the hemline! I loved the hemline for the tunic length! It is long enough to wear with leggings, which I know I will love this fall! The pretty hemline helped me get over myself and make my first cold shouldered top! 😉 And I'm glad I got over myself and tried it! The Options: You can obviously sew this pretty tunic length like I made, or you can make it top leng...

The All Seasons Top and Dress by Pickle Toes Patterns

I'm starting to think a little about fall. I've been sewing a lot this summer, but most of the things I have made so far are really summery and won't carry me far when the weather starts changing. I really want a few handmade things to wear this fall and winter, so I decided to go ahead and make something new! This is the All Season's Top by Pickle Toe's Patterns ! This Pattern: Let me tell you about this pattern ! You have quite a few options for sewing it. You can sew this in top, tunic, or dress length. There are two neckline options (jewel neck and V-Neck). You have quite a few sleeve options (sleeveless, cap, short, elbow, 3/4, or long). The sleeves can be made with a hem or a band. There is also an option to add a thumbhole cuff to the long sleeve. SEE? Lots of options! This pattern is drafted for knit fabrics. Almost any knit fabric with at least 30% stretch will work. You'll want to use something slightly stretchier and with good recovery fo...
