It's been a while since I posted. I've been sewing, helping my kindergartener with virtual school, and living, which just hasn't left me with a lot of time for blogging! Life happens!
But... I've kind of missed writing, and I decided that now was the perfect time to make a new post. I had the opportunity to sew a pattern I really liked, and I got excited enough to find the motivation to write about it! 😉
**Disclosure: I have included my affiliate link to the pattern used in this post. If you choose to purchase a Pattern from Pattern Emporium using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.**
The pattern I tested is from Pattern Emporium. I love their patterns for a few reasons. I've posted before that I have kind of broad shoulders and on with some designers I have to adjust patterns to fit them. There are a couple of designers that seem to fit me well with no adjustments to the pattern pieces and this is one of them. I'm always drawn to testing or sewing their patterns because I know that I can easily get a good fit without too much extra work!
This pattern doesn't have shoulders... so that doesn't really apply here, but I had the time to test and KNEW I would end up with a finished dress that I love. This is the NEW Tank Dress 3-Ways
A few weeks back, they released their new TANK TOP. I loved it, but didn't have time to test at the moment, and still haven't made one. It's on my never-ending list, however. I loved the look of the wide binding and the cut-away style of the straps. It is very different from a regular tank top, setting it apart from the styles that most designers have in their shops.
The new dress has the same cut-away straps and wide binding as the tank top, but has a slightly more fitted silhouette.
All About the Dress:
There is one bodice style for this dress. As I mentioned, it includes the cut-away look at the straps and wide binding that ends up being around 3/4" thick.
It is given the name "3-Way" because of the three different skirt styles included in the pattern. You can sew this dress with a simple A-Line Skirt, a full gathered skirt, or a twirly circle skirt.
I chose to make both of my dresses with the A-Line skirt. There are also two lengths included for each skirt (above the knee or below the knee). I sewed both lengths during testing.
Adjustments I Needed and Thoughts:
The only adjustment I needed in testing was to remove a little length from the bodice so that the waist seam would hit at my natural waist. Everything else was made exactly according to the pattern.
I love the fit of the dress. I find it very comfortable. With this style of straps, it is likely that most regular bra straps will show. I have a bra that has a hook on the back so that the straps can be hooked closer together. It works very well with this dress.
After making my first dress, I had a little strip of fabric left over and decided to make a sash to see how I liked it. I like it both ways. 😊
I tried both lengths in testing. I really love the below the knee length skirt though!
Fabric:
For the first dress I made, I used some leftover DBP fabric I had from a different project. This is actually why I have an above the knee dress - I only had enough for that length. The fabric was from Amelia Lane Designs.
The second dress I made was in SBP (Single Brushed Poly). I made the below the knee length with this dress.
