I've had this fabric for a few weeks with plans of making some tee shirts for Valentine's Day... I knew what I wanted to make, but had not decided which pattern to use. As soon as I received the fabric, I prewashed everything. I prewashed the burgundy like seven or so times to make sure it didn't bleed on the white in future washes!
But then I didn't sew it until this week! I spent too much time trying to decide which pattern to use to make these basic shirts. I knew I wanted to make a short sleeve shirt from the sharks layered over an attached long sleeve with a burgundy neckband. Simple. But I put it off because I wanted to make sure I used something with a slim enough long sleeve for the short sleeve to fit easily over, and I was trying to decide. Also, I kind of don't enjoy sewing sleeves in the round, and kind of don't do it unless it's necessary (with layered sleeves or woven fabrics). So I had been avoiding it.

Then, something kind of amazing happened... Jennifer of Annelaine announced that her featured pattern of the week was the SAWYER - this tee shirt has SO many options, including this super cute faux layered sleeve. So, as soon as I saw her post this, I was SUPER glad I hadn't sewn them yet, because this eased all of my troubles, and I was so excited to try a new pattern!
The Annelaine Sawyer:
I mentioned that this pattern has quite a few options included, which I love for a couple of reasons. It saves you money. You don't have to buy a separate pattern to get a hood, and then another pattern for a placket. This pattern includes the basic neckband, the henley (placket) neckband, a hoodie option, a front chest pocket piece, a kangaroo pocket option, regular short or long sleeves, or these faux layered sleeves, bands or hems, and even some color blocking. It's really a lot, and it's really amazing that it is all in one pattern!
These Shirts:
These shirts are all three made with the regular banded neckline. I used the faux layered sleeves, and chose the hemmed option rather than the banded/cuffed option.
I made them all in cotton lycra. The print was a Valentine's print I got from Raspberry Creeks fabrics, and the solid was just solid cotton lycra (burgundy) from Purple Seamstress. The burgundy is an exact match for some of the hearts in the shark fabric!
When we first saw the fabric, Daniel seemed a bit... um... disturbed... that the sharks were eating the hearts, but then Leah told them that she thought they were candy hearts, and he said, "Oh I didn't think of that!" Then he really loved it! I was so glad he came around to the idea so I could make them Valentine shirts with it! 😉💓
