Easter Sewing 2020

I love sewing for all the holidays. I love making things for the boys for Christmas, Valentine's, St. Patrick's, Easter... Every holiday they get something new.

Generally for Christmas and Easter, they'll get two new things - one is their "fun" holiday outfit, and one is dressier for Church.

This year has been tough. Somehow I thought that since we're home all the time, I'd have more sewing time. Nope, not the case. I've barely found any sewing time. I love sewing, but the kids have worn me out during the day! I typically do a lot of sewing after they go to bed (at least a few nights a week), but recently, I'm ready to sleep as soon as they are! So... I was VERY last minute this year sewing Easter attire.

I looked weeks ago at Joann's to get ideas of fabric for their dressy outfits. I found a beautiful light blue shirting that I planned to go back and get. It was not on sale that day, and I was already using my coupon for something else. I also wanted to look one other place - we have another little fabric shop in Bossier that I like to check out for dressy fabrics, but for obvious reasons, I didn't make it by there this year either.

So with the lock down, I was stuck at home without the fabric I had planned to purchase. Well... with every event being cancelled or moved to "virtual," they really didn't NEED a new dressy outfit for church anyway. Daniel is fussy about buttons. He hates them, and ONLY wears them to church a couple of times a year when I make him. He is okay with buttons in the back, like on peter pan collar shirts, but with us staying home, there really was no point in making them dressy clothes anyway. So... I decided to go with tee shirts with applique and shorts.

I pulled out some of my favorite patterns from Puperita to sew their Easter clothes.

Daniel's Easter Set:

Daniel is measuring between a size 6 and 7 right now. So, for the spring and summer clothes, I've decided to go on and bump him up to a size 7 in hopes that they'll fit until we're ready for long sleeves again. I learned my lesson - I sewed him a pair of size 6 pants for St. Patrick's day and they were almost too short! I barely had any room to hem them!

So for Easter, I sewed Daniel a pair of SWANK shorts and a Jelly Tee. I tested the Swank shorts last year, and I thought they were super adorable. Daniel, however, was not a fan. He has been wearing them this year already, but for some reason he does not like the flat front waistband.  He wants elastic going all the way around. Daniel is all about comfort, and he loves his elastic! So, I messaged Annalisa and asked her if she could think of any reason it wouldn't work to put elastic all the way around. I did it, and it worked out perfectly. They fit great! I love this style for him. They can look a little dressier, but still be super comfortable. With the pockets and the pleat, the front of the shorts or pants looks a bit dressier than most of his shorts. But the elastic provides comfort (and makes them super easy to sew).

Honestly, if I had been able to get a store-bought tee in Daniel's size, I would have, but no shopping meant that I had to make it. You know what pattern I chose - the Jelly Tee. It's my go-to for him. Plus, I already had it printed and taped in his size, because this is his 4th short sleeve jelly this year. If you don't have the Jelly, get it - you won't regret it. I've used it so many times. It fits so well!💗

I got on Etsy, and let Daniel help me pick an applique design... We bought it on Etsy, but I later found that they have an actual website and Facebook group. I'll purchase from the website next time. The company is called "All Things Applique." The design stitched out perfectly for me. I used it three times yesterday. 😉  I won't hesitate to use their designs again!

Luke's and Matthew's

If you've followed me for any length of time, you may know my favorite shorts pattern for the boys - the Puperita Seven Seas Shorts. The only downside of this pattern is that it only goes up to a size 6. Daniel is outgrowing them. 😢 But they're so cute, and super fast. So I decided to make Luke and Matthew both a new pair! Matthew's are a size 18 month, and I made Luke a size 3. Luke is in between a size 2 and 3, and we already have a size 2 like this from when Daniel was little, so I went ahead and made a size 3 to see what fits better. I think I'll let him keep wearing the size 2 for a bit, but he's in the size 3 for photos.

I had a size 3 store-bought tee on hand, so I added applique for Luke on that. For Matthew's shirt, I had a long sleeve size 2 store-bought tee that  I didn't use when it was cold, so I cut the sleeves off and hemmed them. I was looking for fast, because I put off sewing to the Saturday before Easter Sunday!

They always get a new outfit for Easter... I really didn't want this year to be the exception. So I speed sewed yesterday to make sure it happened. Don't look too closely at my stitching lines... you may be able to tell I didn't take my time! 🙈

The Patterns:

As I mentioned, these are all from Puperita.

Fabric:

Last year, I bought this seersucker from the shop Best Fabrics in Bossier. I never used it. I planned rompers for the little two last summer, and never got around to making them. This weekend, I was SO glad I never got around to using it, because I had something for them for Easter!

Daniel's shirt is made from cotton lycra, probably from Elevated Fashion Fabrics. I get solids from there occasionally. The fabric is good quality, and her prices are super amazing! Her solids are generally less than $6/yard!

So... Happy Easter Friends!! 💓🐰 I hope you enjoy your day with your families!

Free and Easy... Sewing the Agnes by Halla!

I love trying new things when it comes to sewing. I love learning new techniques, how to do things different ways, and figuring things out. For the most part, I also enjoy trying new-to-me pattern designers. This was my first ever pattern by Halla  - the AGNES . Yep, I downloaded it a long time ago when it released, but this was my first time ever making it! I downloaded it with intentions of trying it because it was so popular. It may have been popular because it's a FREE pattern (you can get the code to download it in the Halla Facebook Group ), or it may have been really popular because it's FREE and REALLY AWESOME. This blog tour gave me a chance to find out for myself! I participated in this blog tour put together by Kate of  Sewing from Scratch ... the idea is that we would all sew the same pattern, but make it our own. If we love it as is, we sew it as is. If we want a cute bow (Gwen😉), we add a cute bow, if we want to make all the adjustments to get our perfect ...

Every month, Amelia Lane Designs is featuring a new fabric of the month. The featured fabric type is discounted throughout the entire month! It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! And, the best part is, every time I make something new from athletics, I get motivated to move and exercise!   **Disclosure: I have included affiliate links in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I deci...
