Sinclair Ivy Top

I always have small random scraps left from projects... you know the ones... they're not really big enough for much, but they're way too big to throw out! So I save them, and save them, and wait for a good project to come along.

Are you like me?

This new top is the PERFECT pattern for using some of your scrap pieces!

**Disclosure: I have included my affiliate link to the pattern I used in this post. If you choose to purchase this pattern using my link, I'll receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you!**

I got EXCITED when I saw the testing call for the Sinclair Ivy top! And not just a little excited. Like it was love at first line drawing! 😍 Have you ever had this reaction to a pattern? Then I sewed it, and I loved it even more!

Let me tell you about the Pattern!

This pattern is drafted for knit fabrics. It's fitted at the shoulders, semi-fitted at the bust, and flares out towards the waist and hips. It has a color-blocked yoke piece and is the perfect pattern for using two fabrics! The yoke piece is small enough to fit on a lot of your scraps, which I LOVE! There are different sleeve options included. You can make it using short sleeves, 3/4 length sleeves, or long sleeves. The bottom part has a beautiful wide pleat in the back of the shirt. The pattern could be made using a printed top and a solid bottom, or a solid top and printed bottom. The options for sewing this pattern are almost limitless! It has a beautiful curved hem, and the back is a little longer than the front, making it the perfect pattern for sewing tops that can be paired with your favorite skinny jeans or leggings (think Sinclair Penny's - I blogged on them here).

I would say the top is beginner friendly. It's not much different from making a basic tee, aside from the quick color blocking and the pleat. However, the pattern piece is marked for the pleat, and there are notches for matching up the accent yokes with the bottom of the shirt. The instructions are very good, making it a very easy sew!

As with all Sinclair Patterns, this top pattern is drafted separately three times for petite, regular, and tall, making it an ideal pattern for people who generally have to adjust their patterns for height! Most people will likely not need to add or take away length to make the pattern fit correctly!

My Top:

I used a double brushed poly fabric that I've had in my stash for a year or more probably! I had big plans for this fabric when I purchased it, but never got around to making anything with it apparently! I believe it came from Knitpop.
I used the short sleeve pattern piece, because it is HOT HOT HOT right now! Double brushed poly fabric is probably not the best option for summer in the south, but it's fine when I'm indoors, and with the colors I chose, I believe it will carry me into the fall!

I chose to make a size 4 bust blended to a size 6 waist and hips based on my measurements and the size chart. Since I am 5'5", I chose to use the regular length pattern.

I love the fit of this pattern so much! I really always like how the Sinclair patterns fit me. In general, I feel like her patterns fit my body type well, and I'm always eager to try her new patterns! I also really enjoy the testing process with Sinclair!

It took me about an hour to make my shirt, from cutting the fabric to trying on the finished top!

The pattern is on sale for a few days for $6.99. I think it's a great value for a really nice pattern! You can check it out here https://sinclairpatterns.com/product/ivy-knit-colorblocked-tee-with-yoke-pdf-sewing-pattern/?tm=hinze.laura89

  1. How cute! Does this pattern have cup sizes?

    1. Thank you! It does not have separate cup sizes for each size, however according to the size chart, it looks like sizes US0-US8 are drafted for B/C cup sizes. Then sizes US10-US18 are C/D, and US20- US22 are cup size D/E. So depending on where you fall, you might still need an FBA. The shoulers are fitted but the bust is semi fitted, flaring out. <3

I get so excited about new patterns. 😊 One of my favorite designers is releasing TWO new patterns together this month, and I'm thrilled to share about them! **Disclosure: I have included my affiliate links to the patterns used for this post. Free and Easy... Sewing the Agnes by Halla!

I love trying new things when it comes to sewing. I love learning new techniques, how to do things different ways, and figuring things out. For the most part, I also enjoy trying new-to-me pattern designers. This was my first ever pattern by Halla  - the AGNES . Yep, I downloaded it a long time ago when it released, but this was my first time ever making it! I downloaded it with intentions of trying it because it was so popular. It may have been popular because it's a FREE pattern (you can get the code to download it in the Halla Facebook Group ), or it may have been really popular because it's FREE and REALLY AWESOME. This blog tour gave me a chance to find out for myself! I participated in this blog tour put together by Kate of  Sewing from Scratch ... the idea is that we would all sew the same pattern, but make it our own. If we love it as is, we sew it as is. If we want a cute bow (Gwen😉), we add a cute bow, if we want to make all the adjustments to get our perfect ...

New Athletic Set - ALD fabrics

Every month, Amelia Lane Designs is featuring a new fabric of the month. The featured fabric type is discounted throughout the entire month! It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! And, the best part is, every time I make something new from athletics, I get motivated to move and exercise!   **Disclosure: I have included affiliate links in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I deci...
