A New Athletic Set

I've really had a lot of fun sewing and learning to use athletic fabrics. I'm not overly athletic, but I like them for when I do exercise, when I take walks, when I do a workout video, or just for wearing around to be comfortable.

I've sewn several pairs of leggings in the last year or so... they're really easy, and I kind of can't believe I put off trying leggings for as long as I did!

I LOVE the stock of athletic fabrics at Amelia Lane Designs. They have so many, and are constantly getting new things for me to try!

The Fabric I Used:

I was so excited to try out Olympus. It is a new-to-me athletic base! This fabric is so nice! It is smooth and easy to sew. It is 75% polyester and 25% spandex. It is 250 gsm, making it a great bottom weight fabric. It is a bit compressive due to the high spandex content. It is a great fabric to use for athletic sewing, swim sewing, or just lounge sewing.

Amelia Lane Designs is running a preorder for three new custom Olympus prints, and for a few Olympus print re-runs! They are all so pretty!

The one I sewed this time is called "Agave." It is one of the new custom prints. Isn't it nice?

This one has so many possible coordinate fabrics! I'm in love with all of the possibilities! For this round, I decided to coordinate using another athletic base called "Flex." This is another bottom weight nylon/spandex blend.  The color on the site is called "pink."

The Patterns I chose:

Before I started sewing this one, I STARED at the fabric and scoured through my patterns hoping something would just jump out at me. I knew I liked the Rad G.O.A.T. leggings, but I've used that pattern a couple of times recently, and thought I'd try to use something different. But sometimes, it can be scary to try something new, you know? Like what if it doesn't fit and I can't wear these awesome leggings?? Or what if the new-to-me designer is a disaster. I decided to just stick to what I know and sew the RAD leggings again. And, honestly, I'm super glad I did.

I love the pockets on this pattern. I love how quickly this pattern goes together. And since I've sewn them a few times now, I know what to do, I don't need the instructions, and they're quick to sew!

For the top, I also had an equally hard time deciding what to sew! I tested the Sinclair Xena a couple of years ago. I made one version for testing, and never made it again. I liked it, but I just moved on to trying other things. This is something I enjoy about pattern testing - I can keep trying new things. I have the push and the motivation to do so as well.

During the test, however, I made only the top version. There is a top version, a top with a built in bra, or just a bra top version. I was eager to try the bra top version, so I decided this was the perfect opportunity. I really like how it turned out. It is not compressive like a regular sports bra might be. It's probably more ideal for yoga/ walking/swimming/ light exercise than running or high impact exercise. Although, since you're making it yourself, you could probably adjust a few things and make it more ideal for running if you want to play with the pattern and fabrics! I used one layer of Olympus (the floral) on the outside, a layer of Sportivo (another swim friendly fabric) for the inside layer, and the pink flex from the leggings for the band and bindings. I also sewed in swim cups from Amelia Lane Designs. I love the bra top! Even if the flex is not swim friendly, I'm kind of already planning to use it for a swim top next summer (maybe at the beach or in non-chlorine environments).

Don't miss out on the OPEN PREORDER!! The Pre-Order is open until 10/29!

Free and Easy... Sewing the Agnes by Halla!

I love trying new things when it comes to sewing. I love learning new techniques, how to do things different ways, and figuring things out. For the most part, I also enjoy trying new-to-me pattern designers. This was my first ever pattern by Halla  - the AGNES . Yep, I downloaded it a long time ago when it released, but this was my first time ever making it! I downloaded it with intentions of trying it because it was so popular. It may have been popular because it's a FREE pattern (you can get the code to download it in the Halla Facebook Group ), or it may have been really popular because it's FREE and REALLY AWESOME. This blog tour gave me a chance to find out for myself! I participated in this blog tour put together by Kate of  Sewing from Scratch ... the idea is that we would all sew the same pattern, but make it our own. If we love it as is, we sew it as is. If we want a cute bow (Gwen😉), we add a cute bow, if we want to make all the adjustments to get our perfect ...

It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I deci...
