New Athletic Set - the Hybrid Fabric from Amelia Lane Designs

When it comes to sewing, I'm always excited to try something new. When Amelia Lane Designs announced they're stocking some "hybrid" athletic fabric, I was pretty excited to try it.
I struggled a bit deciding what to sew though. I've made a few pairs of leggings in the past with athletics, and love them, but they're not getting a ton of wear at the moment, because it's already getting too hot outside! I've made two bralette type bra tops in the past, but never anything for exercise, and I've kind of been wanting to try. So I decided that this was the perfect time to find the motivation to try something new - like a sports bra. Don't worry - I tried on scraps first 😉

There are quite a few sports bra type patterns out there. I had to decide what to make. It's hard to choose sometimes. So, I did one of my favorite things... I searched almost every pattern designer's site I could think of trying to decide which pattern I would use. Then, I ran across this one by Petite Stitchery. This is the Aries Compression Bra. I kind of liked the way that sounded - I like A LOT of support for a sports bra. I don't want anything to move much. 😐 So I was curious about this "compression" bra. Also, when I was looking at it, I noticed that the bra and the Petite Stitchery leggings were both on sale. I got two patterns for like $7 something. I thought it was a good deal, so I decided I would try both for these athletics!

I have made it twice so far (the first time using athletic scraps- I didn't take pictures), and the second time using this beautiful pink Hybrid Athletic fabric.  The first one, I REALLY struggled with. To be honest, I found the instructions to be confusing. While making my first one, I knew I wasn't doing it right, but sloppily finished my straps. While sloppily finishing my straps, I realized what I was supposed to do, so I did fine with the second one. I also got to looking in the Petite Stitchery Facebook group, and found that they have a video up of Lydia making the bra, so you can watch that if you struggle with the strap instructions too! 😉

I always feel like I need to try every pattern so that I can figure out what I like best so that I can make my favorites. In reality, I make a whole bunch of different patterns, and hardly get back to making my favorites. 🤣 I was drawn to this pattern for a couple of reasons: It has a few different options for sewing them up - plain legs, color blocking, shorts, skort. You name it, you can do it! 😉 When I was planning what to sew, my first thought was capri leggings! I kind of wanted to use the color blocking, but it looked like that was best for the long leggings. And y'all, everybody is looking cute in their leggings they're making, but it's hot in Louisiana. Like I don't want to be wearing pants while I'm outside with my boys. I'm all about dresses and skirts. Even breathable fabrics touching me all over is too much. 🤣 So I went with the skort. The leggings to go underneath can be cut at shorties/ bike shorts or longer. I wanted shorter than the skirt so I went with the shorties. Now that I've made them, I wish I had done the bike shorts. The shorties are SO short on me that I chose not to hem them. I think I'd be more comfortable with them a couple of inches longer. So next time, I'll definitely try that. That's more of a personal preference though - how your body is shaped and what is comfortable on you personally. And, I really love the way the skirt looks!

The Fabrics:

The pink fabric I used was the new Hybrid Athletic - "Sparkling Cosmo." It is such a pretty color! I found the fabric to be pretty supportive using it for the bra. In my "test" bra, I used two layers of dri-fit, a layer of power mesh, and swim cups. That bra was very supportive, but very compressive and difficult to get on. So for this one, I used an outer and an inner layer of the Hybrid and cups. I skipped the power mesh. It's perfect for light exercise. The powermesh might be more ideal if you're making one for running! 🙂

This is one of the NEW ARRIVALS this week. They've stocked a bit of a variety this time. A couple of new Athletics, a couple of DBP. Definitely check out the new arrivals that are on sale! 💓

Free and Easy... Sewing the Agnes by Halla!

I love trying new things when it comes to sewing. I love learning new techniques, how to do things different ways, and figuring things out. For the most part, I also enjoy trying new-to-me pattern designers. This was my first ever pattern by Halla  - the AGNES . Yep, I downloaded it a long time ago when it released, but this was my first time ever making it! I downloaded it with intentions of trying it because it was so popular. It may have been popular because it's a FREE pattern (you can get the code to download it in the Halla Facebook Group ), or it may have been really popular because it's FREE and REALLY AWESOME. This blog tour gave me a chance to find out for myself! I participated in this blog tour put together by Kate of  Sewing from Scratch ... the idea is that we would all sew the same pattern, but make it our own. If we love it as is, we sew it as is. If we want a cute bow (Gwen😉), we add a cute bow, if we want to make all the adjustments to get our perfect ...

New Athletic Set - ALD fabrics

Every month, Amelia Lane Designs is featuring a new fabric of the month. The featured fabric type is discounted throughout the entire month! It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! And, the best part is, every time I make something new from athletics, I get motivated to move and exercise!   **Disclosure: I have included affiliate links in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I deci...
