The Athina Kakou Lisa Dress

I kind of fell in love with the look of this pattern. It is really pretty and feminine. I love all of the details. The bust darts, the waist darts, the invisible zipper, the sash... I love the style.

Athina Kakou decided to have a "Lisa and Kimberly Dress Month." So today is the day I'm sharing my Lisa dress.

Honestly, I did something rather silly - I didn't make a toile. I know. 🙈 I know better. I wish I had at least made a toile of the bodice first, because I'm pretty sure that with the fabric I chose, I could have sized down. My dress was a bit big. I ended up taking in my dress as much as I could without taking it apart. Do you ever reach that point in a project - the point where you're just ready to be finished with it. I was there. So my dress isn't perfect, and I have some ideas on what I want to do differently next time. But, it's still a pretty dress.

Let's Talk about the Pattern

As I mentioned, the pattern is full of beautiful details. The front and back waist have darts for a very flattering fit. There are also bust darts. The dress is about mid-calf length. The back of the dress has an invisible zipper. Optionally, you can add pockets to the skirt. There are a couple of options for the bodice - you can make the dress with a sleeveless bodice. There are optional cute flutter sleeved pieces, or there are tie pieces to tie around the shoulder straps. You can choose to make and wear the sash or leave it off.

The pattern is drafted for woven fabrics (a light to medium weight fabric).

My Dress:

I sewed this dress using a rayon blend fabric I found at Hobby Lobby. I like the print, but did not enjoy sewing the fabric. I believe I say this EVERY time I make something using a woven rayon. I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. 🤣 Maybe if I did more frequently, I'd get more comfortable with sewing it. Or maybe I should just stop! haha

I made the dress, and as I mentioned, I think I could have sized down. I feel like my fabric might have had something to do with the fit. I think I could have been happier, even with this size, had I made the pattern with something slightly heavier/thicker and with a bit more structure. I'll probably try that next time. 🙂

Have you ever tried an Athina Kakou Pattern? If not, I encourage you to check her patterns out. I really think you'll be impressed! She has so many beautiful styles. Her drafting is good, and pattern pieces are very clearly marked and easy to understand. She's also a great resource - she blogs on many different patterns and designers, and has videos to explain how to do things and how to hack her (and other) patterns.

Breaking Ground... FINALLY trying out Itch To Stitch

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Itch To Stitch Patterns, and I've been meaning to try them out. In fact, I may own one or two, but have never sewed them. When I heard about this "Breaking Ground" Blog Tour, I knew it was the perfect time to try out one of these designers that I've been wanting to try, but apparently haven't had the motivation to sew. I had a scrap of this liverpool left over that I really love, so I had to find the perfect thing to make. I remembered seeing this cute petal pencil skirt on the Itch To Stitch site. It looked easy enough, and would be perfect for my fabric, so I thought, "Why not start with that?" **This post may contain my affiliate links. If you choose to make a purchase from my link, I will receive a small commision of the sale at no additional charge to you.** So here we are... the push I finally needed to spend a few minutes sewing (minutes is right... it's a fast sew). Look at my new skir...

Fun, Fast, and Free - Fresh Looks for Summer!

When I first saw the information about the "Boys in Summer" Blog Tour hosted by Made for Little Gents , I knew I wanted to participate! My boys are the reason I started sewing! I HAD to participate. But, what would I sew? I contemplated what I might make for a couple of weeks, and then it hit me... it would be super fun to highlight a couple of great freebies! EVERYONE loves free stuff. Free patterns are a great way to try a new designer out before making a purchase, they're perfect for adding some variety to your pattern stash without spending money, and they're just super fun... because more patterns = more stuff you get to make. 😁 So the freebies I'm going to talk to you about today are from Peek-a-boo Pattern Shop . I love Peek-a-boo patterns. I've made a few of them for my boys and have tested a few as well. I feel like the instructions are mostly geared towards beginners, so any skill level can be successful with her patterns. I've really en...

Getting Dressed for Halloween!

Honestly, Halloween was never my favorite holiday. It was just a day where some people dressed up. I don't particularly care for dressing up, so I haven't since I was a little girl. But... I have two sweet boys now. And one of them LOVES Halloween. So I'm participating in all the costume sewing, fun holiday-themed tee making, and Halloween-themed blog tours, and am actually really enjoying it! 😉 Today is my day to share on the DIY Halloween Costume Blog Tour hosted by Seams Sew Low . Okay... so I'm actually just sharing some Halloween-Themed tees, but they're so fun! I promise to show a picture of their costumes too! Daniel loves ghosts, pumpkins, costumes, candy, scary stuff, Halloween Decorations, everything Halloween related. I don't know where he gets it, but he loves the holiday. So, I have happily now made him 4 costumes in his life, and for the last two years, I've made him a couple of Halloween-themed shirts. So, for my day on the DIY Hal...
