So back a couple of years ago, Pattern Emporium released the Trapeze Trio for free for a limited time. I put off downloading it for too long, and I missed the offer. But it has always looked like such a nice pattern, so... during their sitewide sale a few weeks back, I decided to go ahead and grab it.
I know, I know... I probably have something else similar, but I'm always curious about a new pattern. I love trying new things. I think it keeps me from getting bored. I have some patterns I repeat again and again, but I never lose the desire to try something new and different, whether it's a new pattern, a new-to-me designer, or a new fabric type, I love new things when it comes to sewing.

I recently tested for the first time for Pattern Emporium, when she released the Going Places Dress. It was such a fun process, and I loved the dresses so much that it left me wanting to try all the Pattern Emporium Patterns! You can read my blog post about it here. So, since I snatched up a few more of her patterns in the sale, I decided that it was the perfect time to try one out!
The Pattern:
This pattern is called the TRAPEZE TRIO. You can make it as a long top, a tunic, or in dress length. It is fitted at the bust, but swings out at the waist and hips for a very flattering look. It is very easy to sew - just like a regular tee shirt, and is very cute!
In the past, I've only sewn PE bottoms, and one sleeveless dress pattern, so I didn't really have an idea of how Pattern Emporium shoulders would fit me. Since I routinely need a broad shoulder adjustment with many designers, I decided to go on and do a small one on this pattern. I know, I know... I should make a muslin. 🙈 But if you've been following me long enough... you know I rarely do. 🤷
It turns out that I had a bit too much fabric in the back of the shoulder/ at the sleeve, possibly from the adjustment that I may have not needed. I took it in a little with a little extra seam allowance, so the fit isn't perfect, but I've already worn it three times. So obviously, it isn't that bad, and doesn't bother me much! I think next time though, I'll try this pattern without the shoulder adjustment and get a better idea of the fit of the pattern, and go from there!
This is such a comfy dress. I love it paired with leggings! I have been wearing it with my Sinclair Penny leggings that I blogged on here.
The Fabric:
Months back, Amelia Lane Designs stocked this same fabric on a brown/gold colorway. I have a little over a yard folded on a shelf waiting for the perfect project. I loved it so much that I've been very picky about cutting it. I don't want to use it on the wrong thing. So I was REALLY excited when I saw it in blue! It's sooo pretty y'all!!
This is a double brushed poly. I love double brushed poly. You may have picked up on that! 😉
And if I had not been forced to figure out what I was going to sew, I honestly probably would still be sitting on this pretty print trying to figure it out. I thought about it for a couple of weeks; I sewed other projects while I thought about it. Sometimes you have a pattern and you grab a fabric and sew it. Sometimes, you see a fabric and you just KNOW that it was meant to be a certain pattern. Then other times, you love a fabric so much that you just really don't know what to do with it because nothing sounds like it'll do the fabric justice. That's kind of where I was with this one. I eventually decided to try one of my new PE patterns, and I was really glad I did!
