Pattern Emporium Going Places

Y'all.... this dress. I just wish it was the right time of year here in the U.S. for me to LIVE in this dress. I love it oh so much!

**Disclosure: This blog post contains my affiliate link to the pattern I tested. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I'll receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you**

When I saw the tester call for the Going Places Dress, I eagerly applied thinking it looks like something I would love! And, I do. 😉 I originally planned to make two - one of the fitted and one fit and flare. But I somehow have two fit and flare dresses and am still planning to make the fitted one!

It is such a classic style! I want several for every day next summer! 💓

As you've probably gathered, there are two big options for this dress- the fitted or the fit and flare. The fitted version can be made with a straight hem or with a flounce hem.The fit and flare has multiple length options- everything from knee length to maxi length.

Both versions of the patterns have several neckline choices. There are three rounded necklines (boat, ballet (high scoop) or babe (low scoop), and there are two square necklines - the high square and the low square.

You can choose to finish your neckline and straps with either binding or bands. While the back is very open, the straps still nicely cover regular bra straps.

For this pattern, ideally you would use a fabric with good stretch both horizontally and vertically. However, as long as your fabric has great horizontal stretch and some vertical "give," you will be fine. For the bands or binding, you will need a fabric with excellent stretch and recovery.

As I mentioned, so far, I've made two fit and flare dresses. Both of my dresses were knee length. For both dresses, I chose to use binding for the neckline and straps. My two dresses were nearly identical - just different fabric types.

The first dress I made was made with a fabric I received a while ago in a mystery box - it feels like ITY, but is a bit stretchier than other ITY I've worked with. I really liked it, and love how the dress turned out using it.

The second fabric I used was some single brushed poly I purchased from Amelia Lane Designs. It is my favorite of the two, but I really love both so much!

Mashable?

You know, you love the dress, but want sleeves? Or love it but wish the back was more closed? Well.... many of the testers tried this pattern mashed with other Pattern Emporium patterns had had great results. In fact, Kate was even working on a page with possible mashes/ explanations for the pattern. Isn't that awesome?

The Pattern Sale:

The pattern is on sale for just a little while. If you'd like to purchase an extra PE pattern to mash with your Going Places dress, you get an even bigger discount. See the website for all the details concerning the sale! 😉

Breaking Ground... FINALLY trying out Itch To Stitch

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Itch To Stitch Patterns, and I've been meaning to try them out. In fact, I may own one or two, but have never sewed them. When I heard about this "Breaking Ground" Blog Tour, I knew it was the perfect time to try out one of these designers that I've been wanting to try, but apparently haven't had the motivation to sew. I had a scrap of this liverpool left over that I really love, so I had to find the perfect thing to make. I remembered seeing this cute petal pencil skirt on the Itch To Stitch site. It looked easy enough, and would be perfect for my fabric, so I thought, "Why not start with that?" **This post may contain my affiliate links. If you choose to make a purchase from my link, I will receive a small commision of the sale at no additional charge to you.** So here we are... the push I finally needed to spend a few minutes sewing (minutes is right... it's a fast sew). Look at my new skir...

Fun, Fast, and Free - Fresh Looks for Summer!

When I first saw the information about the "Boys in Summer" Blog Tour hosted by Made for Little Gents , I knew I wanted to participate! My boys are the reason I started sewing! I HAD to participate. But, what would I sew? I contemplated what I might make for a couple of weeks, and then it hit me... it would be super fun to highlight a couple of great freebies! EVERYONE loves free stuff. Free patterns are a great way to try a new designer out before making a purchase, they're perfect for adding some variety to your pattern stash without spending money, and they're just super fun... because more patterns = more stuff you get to make. 😁 So the freebies I'm going to talk to you about today are from Peek-a-boo Pattern Shop . I love Peek-a-boo patterns. I've made a few of them for my boys and have tested a few as well. I feel like the instructions are mostly geared towards beginners, so any skill level can be successful with her patterns. I've really en...

Getting Dressed for Halloween!

Honestly, Halloween was never my favorite holiday. It was just a day where some people dressed up. I don't particularly care for dressing up, so I haven't since I was a little girl. But... I have two sweet boys now. And one of them LOVES Halloween. So I'm participating in all the costume sewing, fun holiday-themed tee making, and Halloween-themed blog tours, and am actually really enjoying it! 😉 Today is my day to share on the DIY Halloween Costume Blog Tour hosted by Seams Sew Low . Okay... so I'm actually just sharing some Halloween-Themed tees, but they're so fun! I promise to show a picture of their costumes too! Daniel loves ghosts, pumpkins, costumes, candy, scary stuff, Halloween Decorations, everything Halloween related. I don't know where he gets it, but he loves the holiday. So, I have happily now made him 4 costumes in his life, and for the last two years, I've made him a couple of Halloween-themed shirts. So, for my day on the DIY Hal...
