My New Athletic Set by Greenstyle

Every now and then, I try something new... like a new fabric or a new designer.

Sometimes I try both at the same time, and end up with something I love - like this Athletic Set.

This week, Amelia Lane Designs has stocked several new athletic fabrics. I'll be honest - life has been a little crazy the last several weeks, and I haven't found the time without the kids to make it to the gym... every now and again, we need a little motivation. So I thought a new athletic set might do it for me.

And, yep, I love this set and kind of can't wait to wear these leggings to the gym!

The Greenstyle Strides:

I used the Strides from Greenstyle for my leggings. I'd seen this pattern shared around. It seems to be quite popular in the PDF athletic sewing world. I was intrigued by the side panel with a pocket. I've never had leggings with a pocket. So I liked that there would be somewhere to store my phone!

But, every time I try a pants pattern, I get nervous. SO much can go wrong with pants. Have you ever been to the store and tried on a pair of pants and the fit was just AWFUL. You knew that you needed a different brand; there was nothing that could be done to make these things look good? That happens sometimes in sewing. Technically, you should always make a practice pair/ a toile or muslin first to try a pattern out, determine what adjustments you might need to make to get a great fit. But I'll be honest about something... I don't always do this. I know it's not good practice, but....🤷 I just do it and hope for the best and learn for next time.

Generally, I can make a few minor adjustments to make my first pair wearable. And leggings have so much negative ease that I generally don't find them to be the most terrible, so I went for it.

And, this might be my new favorite legging pattern. I love the way they fit, the way they look, and I really, really love that phone pocket! Yeah, I think my phone fits better in this pocket than it does in my jeans pocket. All the reason to wear leggings? 😉

So, my leggings are done, and I kind of didn't want to pair them with a regular tee shirt for photos, so decisions... decisions

The Greenstyle Elevate:

This pattern by Greenstyle offers two patterns in one - you get this cute crop tank and then an over shirt as well. This time, since I was making athletic, I decided to just go with the crop.

Confession: I've never owned a crop top, and I'm not entirely sure that I'll actually wear it anywhere other than the beach. 🤣

I decided it would be okay though since the leggings were so high-waisted. Minimal midriff shows. That make it okay-ish, right?

I really like the pattern though - I like the look of the binding, and I love the front overlap band. I think it turns out really cute. I kind of do want to hack this pattern into a bathing suit top for the summer!

The Fabric:

As I mentioned, these athletics are a NEW ARRIVAL this week at Amelia Lane Designs. They'll be on sale for a few days, and they're really awesome to work with!

For the leggings, I paired the print with their Charcoal Supplex that they had back in the summer. I think it goes nicely together!

I definitely recommend you checking out the new athletics! 😊

Breaking Ground... FINALLY trying out Itch To Stitch

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Itch To Stitch Patterns, and I've been meaning to try them out. In fact, I may own one or two, but have never sewed them. When I heard about this "Breaking Ground" Blog Tour, I knew it was the perfect time to try out one of these designers that I've been wanting to try, but apparently haven't had the motivation to sew. I had a scrap of this liverpool left over that I really love, so I had to find the perfect thing to make. I remembered seeing this cute petal pencil skirt on the Itch To Stitch site. It looked easy enough, and would be perfect for my fabric, so I thought, "Why not start with that?" **This post may contain my affiliate links. If you choose to make a purchase from my link, I will receive a small commision of the sale at no additional charge to you.** So here we are... the push I finally needed to spend a few minutes sewing (minutes is right... it's a fast sew). Look at my new skir...

It also has a couple of lengths - for the hemband to sit on the waist or the hips.  Both versions can be made with several necklines- three different rounded necklines, a v neckline, or a squared neckline. They both have several options for sleeve lengths or two choices for sle...

January Releases from Amelia Lane Designs

I always get so excited about new fabric releases from Amelia Lane Designs. Frequently, they give me the opportunity to sew something I might not otherwise and try something new. I have learned a lot sewing for them, like how to sew swim and athletic wear. But I've also learned that I actually LIKE wearing fun prints and designs that I haven't always worn.  ** Disclosure: I have included affiliate links to patterns used in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** For this release, I tried something that is really not me - this fun animal print! There have been a few releases recently with fun animal-print fabrics, and I have not sewn any of them, because I thought I wouldn't like wearing them. But after seeing some of the other sewists in the ALD Facebook Group sharing their makes, I knew I HAD to try it! I am really glad I did. This dress makes me so happy! This fabric is a d...
