5 out of 4 Shenanigan's Skort and Michelle Fitted Tee

It's September in Louisiana, and the days are still HOT! The high is still around 95 degrees a lot of days. I'm kind of ready for cooler weather, but in the meantime, I'm trying to keep cool and comfortable.

→ Enters new outfit made in athletic wear!

This is the 5 out of 4 Shenanigan's Skort and Michelle Fitted Tee Shirt.

The Skort:

This is a pattern you really want to add to your stash, and a skirt you really need to add to your closet, I promise. It is so comfortable. There are different lengths to choose from for the skirt, there are short leggings underneath. It's perfect for tennis, running, going to the gym, chasing kiddos... you choose. I've already worn mine to the gym, to play in the yard in the heat, and to watch my kiddo play soccer after school. I love it. I said the other day that next summer, I think I'll need like ten of these, because I'm not sure that I'll want to wear anything else! 😃 Yeah, I love it that much!

The pattern is for knit fabric. You can choose your waist height (I think I chose high rise - I like this rise), choose the hem length (I think I chose "Safe"), which legging length you want (do you want them to show under your skirt or be hidden), and whether you would like a flounce. There is also a cute little pocket option for holding a tennis ball if that's what you're using your skirt for! I don't play tennis, so I didn't add it to mine.

The skort is perfect because you can wear it as a skort OR you can make just the skirt OR just the shorts! I used an athletic cotton/poly/spandex from Amelia Lane Designs. And, I really love it - I think this fabric might be my new favorite base. It's really comfortable and sturdy without being too hot. I'm already planning a skim skort for next summer though! I love this look for swimwear.

I paired my Shenanigan's Skort with the 5oo4 Michelle Tee. This tee is fitted everywhere and is perfect for sewing an athletic tee (like I did), an everyday tee, or even a layering piece. It has two front bodice pieces (a regular front or one with a full bust adjustment included), there are three sleeve lengths (short, 3/4 or long), and can be made in top length or tunic length. Since it's fitted, there is negative ease, and you'll want a knit fabric with good stretch for sewing this top. I used an athletic fabric available at Amelia Lane Designs.

Fabric Choice:

As I mentioned, both of these patterns are drafted for knit fabrics. There are a lot of fabric choices and types that would work well for sewing these patterns. I did choose athletic fabrics for both of mine since Amelia Lane Designs had some new ones I was loving! But I'll definitely be choosing some different fabric types for next summer!

Will I Sew These Again?

For sure!!! I think the skort is one of my favorite things ever and definitely plan to sew many more of them! For the top, I have about a million (okay I exaggerate a tad) tee shirt patterns. I like that it's fitted, but I have broad shoulders, and these were just a tad too narrow for me, so I think next time I make it, I'll adjust the shoulders a bit (this is a common adjustment I need), before I sew it. But I really love how this outfit turned out! 💓 These patterns were awesome to use!

Breaking Ground... FINALLY trying out Itch To Stitch

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Itch To Stitch Patterns, and I've been meaning to try them out. In fact, I may own one or two, but have never sewed them. When I heard about this "Breaking Ground" Blog Tour, I knew it was the perfect time to try out one of these designers that I've been wanting to try, but apparently haven't had the motivation to sew. I had a scrap of this liverpool left over that I really love, so I had to find the perfect thing to make. I remembered seeing this cute petal pencil skirt on the Itch To Stitch site. It looked easy enough, and would be perfect for my fabric, so I thought, "Why not start with that?" **This post may contain my affiliate links. If you choose to make a purchase from my link, I will receive a small commision of the sale at no additional charge to you.** So here we are... the push I finally needed to spend a few minutes sewing (minutes is right... it's a fast sew). A Double Release from Pattern Emporium

I get so excited about new patterns. 😊 One of my favorite designers is releasing TWO new patterns together this month, and I'm thrilled to share about them! **Disclosure: I have included my affiliate links to the patterns used for this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I'll receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** The first new release- the BESTIES TEE This tee is so fun, with quite a few options! You can choose whether you like the flared tee or the banded tee. The flared tee features a slightly flared silhouette with three length options (cropped, regular, or long).  The banded option also has a slightly flared silhouette gathered into a waistband. It also has a couple of lengths - for the hemband to sit on the waist or the hips.  Both versions can be made with several necklines- three different rounded necklines, a v neckline, or a squared neckline. They both have several options for sleeve lengths or two choices for sle...

January Releases from Amelia Lane Designs

I always get so excited about new fabric releases from Amelia Lane Designs. Frequently, they give me the opportunity to sew something I might not otherwise and try something new. I have learned a lot sewing for them, like how to sew swim and athletic wear. But I've also learned that I actually LIKE wearing fun prints and designs that I haven't always worn.  ** Disclosure: I have included affiliate links to patterns used in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** For this release, I tried something that is really not me - this fun animal print! There have been a few releases recently with fun animal-print fabrics, and I have not sewn any of them, because I thought I wouldn't like wearing them. But after seeing some of the other sewists in the ALD Facebook Group sharing their makes, I knew I HAD to try it! I am really glad I did. This dress makes me so happy! This fabric is a d...
