I haven't had an actual swim cover up since I was a little kid I think. For the last several years, I've opted to wear a rashguard and a swim skirt, because they're easy to fit. I always struggled finding swim tops that fit my body in the stores. They either didn't provide enough coverage, support, or they were too big. So, wearing rash guards and swim skirts, I didn't feel much of a need to have a swim cover up.

But this year, I've been making actual swimming suits, and I'm really enjoying having them. But, I decided I needed a swim cover up to wear over them. 🙂
Amelia Lane Designs just stocked the PERFECT fabric for swim cover ups. It's an athletic fabric, but it's soft, lightweight, and drapey. It reminds me of ITY fabric if you've ever worked with that. This athletic base is called "Scorpion." It's my first time to use this base, and I'm definitely a fan!
Right now, they have the fabric stocked in three colors - purple, pink, and white. It is lightweight, but not see-through. It's probably best for patterns that need a little drape, like tops, dresses, flowy skirts or shorts. It is a polyester spandex blend.
Some of the ALD promo team did use it for leggings, but it definitely wouldn't have the same compression quality as other athletic bases, although, I'm sure it would be super comfortable for leggings, if that's what you're looking for!
I love using the fabric for a swim cover up, because it's soft, airy, feels pretty breathable to me, and it dries quickly.
The Pattern I Used:
For this swim cover up, I used the George and Ginger Lounge Gown for the first time. I really liked it. I'd been looking at it/ considering sewing it for a while, and I should have tried it sooner. It's comfortable, super easy to sew, and works perfectly for a swim cover up! 
Also... did I mention, the pattern is FREE on their website?? What a value!
I'm anxious to try it again for a nightgown. I love the fit of it!
I did not add the elastic to the waistband, as suggested in the pattern tutorial. But I'm happy with it like this, and it seems super comfortable, easy to slip on and off without it.
There are two options for the front crossover - you can either cross it over more (like I did) for more coverage, or leave it a bit more open, where it comes down lower in the front. 
The skirt also has two lengths - "baby doll" or "dress" length. This is dress length.
If you don't have the pattern, definitely try it! It's easy, comfortable, and you can't beat free!
What I Paired With Mine:
There are several fabrics that look really cute paired with the scorpion fabrics. You can see them if you look at the ALD blog post with all of the photos from the ALD Promo Team. 
I paired mine with "Sylvester" Tricot. While it's not a "Match," I think it's a really fun coordinate. I really love these two fabrics together!
Another fabric that both the pink and purple Scorpion look BEAUTIFUL with is the Jewell Triathalon Fabric (the preorder for this just ended). If you pre-ordered the Jewell, buy the scorpion to go with it! I'm obsessed with them together!
