The Tropical Shirt by Wardrobe by Me

I love Wardrobe by Me Patterns. Every pattern I have made goes together so easily, fits so well, and has been a favorite for me.

She has several men's patterns, but until recently, I had not made one. When I saw the tester call for the Tropical Shirt, I immediately wanted to test it! It really doesn't look like something my husband would wear, however. I looked at the sizes hoping that my nephew might fit. I had looked at her mens' sizing chart last year when she released her polo. But he didn't quite fit then. I was happy to discover that his chest measurement now fits into her 2XS patterns! It's so weird using a men's pattern for him (wow he's grown), but it's nice to have a few more options for patterns that fit! It's also nice having some more options from a designer I really like!

So... let's talk about the shirt

This pattern is for a men's woven shirt. It is a "tropical" style, as referenced in the name. It is more of a casual shirt with a convertible collar. It buttons on the front and has a front pocket. The back has a double yoke and two pleats. There are also side slits, which offer more detail to make this a really nice looking shirt!

Wardrobe by Me Patterns for men fit a 2XS - a 3X. The men's patterns are drafted for different heights, based on the measurements. For example, the smallest size is drafted for 5'4", and as the sizes increase, the height increases as well.

Scotty's Shirt

Scotty's chest measurement falls perfectly into the 2XS size. However, he is not 5'4", so I had to removed a little length. I chose not to remove any length from the sleeves, but did use a slightly wider hem than is recommended. The shirt fits him perfectly, and he loves wearing it. We made it from 100% cotton from Joann's Fabrics.

The Story Behind the Pandas

Y'all I love the story behind this shirt as much as I love the pattern! 💓 For those of you who don't know the story, I feel the need to share. My sister is Scotty's step-mama. He lost his biological mama a few years ago. From what I hear, she was a wonderful lady, and she loved Scotty. She also loved pandas. Her name was "Amanda," and I think I've heard that her daddy called her "Amanda Panda." So, Scotty associated Pandas with his sweet mama.

When I decided to test the pattern, Leah took Scotty to pick out some fabric that he liked. He loves when I make him stuff, and was happy to be a tester for the pattern. It was a Sunday afternoon, and we were leaving town on Friday morning. They were going to visit some of his mama's family in South Louisiana, and taking him by the cemetery while they were out.

Scotty picked out the Panda fabric and asked Leah if the shirt would be ready for the trip, very excitedly! 🐼 I didn't see how I was going to get it done in time, but his excitement was my motivation! I spent a good bit of time that Thursday working on it, and he was able to wear it to visit his mom at the cemetery. It meant so much to him, and it made me feel good to be able to make his day!

He has worn and worn the shirt! He chose to wear it on his birthday... I think it's his favorite new thing! We need to take him back and let him choose some more fabric to have another shirt!

So... Go Check Out the Pattern

It really is an awesome, easy to use pattern. It goes together fairly easily, and results in a nice, professional looking shirt!

Free and Easy... Sewing the Agnes by Halla!

I love trying new things when it comes to sewing. I love learning new techniques, how to do things different ways, and figuring things out. For the most part, I also enjoy trying new-to-me pattern designers. This was my first ever pattern by Halla  - the AGNES . Yep, I downloaded it a long time ago when it released, but this was my first time ever making it! I downloaded it with intentions of trying it because it was so popular. It may have been popular because it's a FREE pattern (you can get the code to download it in the Halla Facebook Group ), or it may have been really popular because it's FREE and REALLY AWESOME. This blog tour gave me a chance to find out for myself! I participated in this blog tour put together by Kate of  Sewing from Scratch ... the idea is that we would all sew the same pattern, but make it our own. If we love it as is, we sew it as is. If we want a cute bow (Gwen😉), we add a cute bow, if we want to make all the adjustments to get our perfect f

New Athletic Set - ALD fabrics

Every month, Amelia Lane Designs is featuring a new fabric of the month. The featured fabric type is discounted throughout the entire month! It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! And, the best part is, every time I make something new from athletics, I get motivated to move and exercise!   **Disclosure: I have included affiliate links in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I decided to
