My Favorite New Spring Dress

I LOVE this dress!

I love the fit, the style, the fabric, the print, the softness, the way it feels, the way it makes me feel. I think it's for sure a favorite for me!

Obviously I love a lot about this dress... let's talk about it!

The Fabric:

This fabric is an AMAZINGLY soft bamboo lycra fabric from Nature's Fabrics. They have the best prints and solid bamboo fabrics. If you've never sewn with or worn bamboo lycra, you should sometime. It really is amazing. It's one of the softest fabrics around. It's also super breathable for warmer months. It is easy to sew, wonderful to wear... it's just awesome. You can find the one I'm wearing here https://naturesfabrics.com/products/vintage-lilacs-bamboo-spandex-jersey but check out the rest of their site while you're there. They have an amazing selection of fabrics for diapers and apparel. You won't be disappointed.

The Pattern:

This is a new-to-me pattern, but it is SO good.  The pattern is the Asta by Wardrobe by Me Patterns. This pattern includes two necklines (the boatneck I used) and a turtleneck. According to the pattern, the skirt is made by cutting two front pieces and two back pieces. I decided, however, to cut both the front and the back on the fold, since I didn't want a front seam. I eliminated the seam allowance first, and placed the piece on the fold of my fabric. I also decided to skip the pockets.
There is one skirt length included in this pattern. The tutorial does suggest trying on the dress before hemming, and hemming at the length you prefer. I liked the long skirt, but I decided to cut about 3 inches off because of the weight of the bamboo fabric. It was pulling at the bodice. It did help.
I also decided to add some elastic at the waistline to help with the weight of the bamboo fabric. It helped keep the waist of the dress in the right spot.

The pattern is drafted for knit fabrics. It has some negative ease in the bust area.

I LOVE the finished product!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this will fall into my "all-time-favorites" category. I love the fit, I love the style. It's so comfortable! It's easy to sew and easy to wear. I know for sure I'll use the pattern again! I'm looking forward to trying it in a nice liverpool or something with a little more structure too! It's an amazing pattern!

Breaking Ground... FINALLY trying out Itch To Stitch

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Itch To Stitch Patterns, and I've been meaning to try them out. In fact, I may own one or two, but have never sewed them. When I heard about this "Breaking Ground" Blog Tour, I knew it was the perfect time to try out one of these designers that I've been wanting to try, but apparently haven't had the motivation to sew. I had a scrap of this liverpool left over that I really love, so I had to find the perfect thing to make. I remembered seeing this cute petal pencil skirt on the Itch To Stitch site. It looked easy enough, and would be perfect for my fabric, so I thought, "Why not start with that?" **This post may contain my affiliate links. If you choose to make a purchase from my link, I will receive a small commision of the sale at no additional charge to you.** So here we are... the push I finally needed to spend a few minutes sewing (minutes is right... it's a fast sew). Look at my new skir...

A Double Release from Pattern Emporium

I get so excited about new patterns. 😊 One of my favorite designers is releasing TWO new patterns together this month, and I'm thrilled to share about them! **Disclosure: I have included my affiliate links to the patterns used for this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I'll receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** The first new release- the BESTIES TEE This tee is so fun, with quite a few options! You can choose whether you like the flared tee or the banded tee. It also has a couple of lengths - for the hemband to sit on the waist or the hips.  Both versions can be made with several necklines- three different rounded necklines, a v neckline, or a squared neckline. They both have several options for sleeve lengths or two choices for sle...

January Releases from Amelia Lane Designs

I always get so excited about new fabric releases from Amelia Lane Designs. Frequently, they give me the opportunity to sew something I might not otherwise and try something new. I have learned a lot sewing for them, like how to sew swim and athletic wear. But I've also learned that I actually LIKE wearing fun prints and designs that I haven't always worn.  ** Disclosure: I have included affiliate links to patterns used in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** For this release, I tried something that is really not me - this fun animal print! There have been a few releases recently with fun animal-print fabrics, and I have not sewn any of them, because I thought I wouldn't like wearing them. But after seeing some of the other sewists in the ALD Facebook Group sharing their makes, I knew I HAD to try it! I am really glad I did. This dress makes me so happy! This fabric is a d...
