Swim at Amelia Lane Designs!

You may have picked up on this before... but I'm loving Amelia Lane Designs, y'all. It's probably my favorite online place to get fabric. I have not been disappointed with the quality, the customer service, or the shipping speed! I may say it every time... but you get the idea! 😉

Well... things just got really exciting, because this awesome little company just started carrying SWIM SOLIDS! And not just any ol' swim solids... these fabrics have UV Protection!!! WHAT? 🎉 That may not be quite as exciting to everybody, but it's pretty exciting to me, because we have a beach trip coming up! So.... new vacation stuff!
I've planned to try making an actual bathing suit... but I haven't yet. I really still want to, because it'll be a challenge for me, and I'll learn new stuff. But I'll be honest... I haven't wanted to spend a lot of time making something that I won't wear much. And, I don't have that much pre vacation sewing time, so I needed to spend my time on something that I really wanted and would really wear.

For the past several summers, I've worn rash guards and swim skirts to the beach. I have NEVER liked regular swim bottoms. I've never felt super comfortable wearing them in public, so swim skirts have been my go-to for the past forever. But I discovered rashguards right after Daniel was born... I love the comfort and the coverage. They're easy to wear, great for playing with the kids. There is absolutely no risk of anything coming uncovered. That might be my favorite part.

My Inspiration:

I was "shopping" around online one night, looking for swim ideas. And I came across this. I LOVE this. So... I decided that with the new fabulous swim at ALD, I was going to recreate this look! 🙂

Found on Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Ella-Mae-Modest-Swimsuit-Leggings/dp/B07PK4FYDN/ref=cts_ap_1_vtp?th=1

My Top:

My favorite basic tee is the Bondi by Sinclair Patterns. So, I decided it would be perfect for making my rash guard. I generally sew a size 4 bust, grading out to a 6 at the waist and hips. However, since this was swim, and since the pattern has about 5" of positive ease at the waist, I chose to sew a straight size 4. I thought that might keep it from wanting to come up in the water.

My Skirt:

For the bottoms, I used the Sinclair Penny Leggings. I've made them one other time and was so thrilled with the fit, so I decided they would be perfect for this. I measured my inseam to about my knee, and added 1" for hemming. I cropped my leggings there. Easy, easy.

Then I wanted to add a skirt. There are obviously tutorials online for making a basic A-Line or circle skirt, but I sewed this pattern a few weeks ago, so it was already printed. So, that's what I used! I'm all about easy. I just measured the waist of my leggings and the waist of the skirt pattern and knew they were really close so they should fit.
I put together the leggings like normal, sewing the crotch seams and the inseam. I sewed the side seams of the skirt. Then I put the skirt over the leggings and basted the waist of the skirt to the waist of the leggings. Finally, I put the waistband on both pieces! This was a tad tricky, just because the fabric is slippery and wanted to slide a bit on me. They're not perfect, but I'm pretty happy, and definitely looking forward to using these on beach vacation!

The Fabric:

As I mentioned, this is the solid swim from Amelia Lane Designs. It has UV protection, so it's perfect for rash guards!! They also have a few printed swim fabrics you can match/ coordinate with these! It's really awesome!!

What will you make??

The Tank Dress 3-ways by Pattern Emporium

It's been a while since I posted. I've been sewing, helping my kindergartener with virtual school, and living, which just hasn't left me with a lot of time for blogging! Life happens!  But... I've kind of missed writing, and I decided that now was the perfect time to make a new post. I had the opportunity to sew a pattern I really liked, and I got excited enough to find the motivation to write about it! 😉 **Disclosure: I have included my affiliate link to the pattern used in this post. If you choose to purchase a Pattern from Pattern Emporium using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** The pattern I tested is from Pattern Emporium. I love their patterns for a few reasons. I've posted before that I have kind of broad shoulders and on with some designers I have to adjust patterns to fit them. There are a couple of designers that seem to fit me well with no adjustments to the pattern pieces and this is one of them. I

It also has a couple of lengths - for the hemband to sit on the waist or the hips.  Both versions can be made with several necklines- three different rounded necklines, a v neckline, or a squared neckline.  Every month, Amelia Lane Designs is featuring a new fabric of the month. The featured fabric type is discounted throughout the entire month! It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! And, the best part is, every time I make something new from athletics, I get motivated to move and exercise!   **Disclosure: I have included affiliate links in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I decided to
