Swim at Amelia Lane Designs!

You may have picked up on this before... but I'm loving Amelia Lane Designs, y'all. It's probably my favorite online place to get fabric. I have not been disappointed with the quality, the customer service, or the shipping speed! I may say it every time... but you get the idea! 😉

Well... things just got really exciting, because this awesome little company just started carrying SWIM SOLIDS! And not just any ol' swim solids... these fabrics have UV Protection!!! WHAT? 🎉 That may not be quite as exciting to everybody, but it's pretty exciting to me, because we have a beach trip coming up! So.... new vacation stuff!
I've planned to try making an actual bathing suit... but I haven't yet. I really still want to, because it'll be a challenge for me, and I'll learn new stuff. But I'll be honest... I haven't wanted to spend a lot of time making something that I won't wear much. And, I don't have that much pre vacation sewing time, so I needed to spend my time on something that I really wanted and would really wear.

For the past several summers, I've worn rash guards and swim skirts to the beach. I have NEVER liked regular swim bottoms. I've never felt super comfortable wearing them in public, so swim skirts have been my go-to for the past forever. But I discovered rashguards right after Daniel was born... I love the comfort and the coverage. They're easy to wear, great for playing with the kids. There is absolutely no risk of anything coming uncovered. That might be my favorite part.

My Inspiration:

I was "shopping" around online one night, looking for swim ideas. And I came across this. I LOVE this. So... I decided that with the new fabulous swim at ALD, I was going to recreate this look! 🙂

Found on Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Ella-Mae-Modest-Swimsuit-Leggings/dp/B07PK4FYDN/ref=cts_ap_1_vtp?th=1

My Top:

My favorite basic tee is the Bondi by Sinclair Patterns. So, I decided it would be perfect for making my rash guard. I generally sew a size 4 bust, grading out to a 6 at the waist and hips. However, since this was swim, and since the pattern has about 5" of positive ease at the waist, I chose to sew a straight size 4. I thought that might keep it from wanting to come up in the water.

My Skirt:

For the bottoms, I used the Sinclair Penny Leggings. I've made them one other time and was so thrilled with the fit, so I decided they would be perfect for this. I measured my inseam to about my knee, and added 1" for hemming. I cropped my leggings there. Easy, easy.

Then I wanted to add a skirt. There are obviously tutorials online for making a basic A-Line or circle skirt, but I sewed this pattern a few weeks ago, so it was already printed. So, that's what I used! I'm all about easy. I just measured the waist of my leggings and the waist of the skirt pattern and knew they were really close so they should fit.
I put together the leggings like normal, sewing the crotch seams and the inseam. I sewed the side seams of the skirt. Then I put the skirt over the leggings and basted the waist of the skirt to the waist of the leggings. Finally, I put the waistband on both pieces! This was a tad tricky, just because the fabric is slippery and wanted to slide a bit on me. They're not perfect, but I'm pretty happy, and definitely looking forward to using these on beach vacation!

The Fabric:

As I mentioned, this is the solid swim from Amelia Lane Designs. It has UV protection, so it's perfect for rash guards!! They also have a few printed swim fabrics you can match/ coordinate with these! It's really awesome!!

What will you make??

Breaking Ground... FINALLY trying out Itch To Stitch

I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Itch To Stitch Patterns, and I've been meaning to try them out. In fact, I may own one or two, but have never sewed them. When I heard about this "Breaking Ground" Blog Tour, I knew it was the perfect time to try out one of these designers that I've been wanting to try, but apparently haven't had the motivation to sew. I had a scrap of this liverpool left over that I really love, so I had to find the perfect thing to make. I remembered seeing this cute petal pencil skirt on the Itch To Stitch site. It looked easy enough, and would be perfect for my fabric, so I thought, "Why not start with that?" **This post may contain my affiliate links. If you choose to make a purchase from my link, I will receive a small commision of the sale at no additional charge to you.** So here we are... the push I finally needed to spend a few minutes sewing (minutes is right... it's a fast sew). Look at my new skir...

Fun, Fast, and Free - Fresh Looks for Summer!

When I first saw the information about the "Boys in Summer" Blog Tour hosted by Made for Little Gents , I knew I wanted to participate! My boys are the reason I started sewing! I HAD to participate. But, what would I sew? I contemplated what I might make for a couple of weeks, and then it hit me... it would be super fun to highlight a couple of great freebies! EVERYONE loves free stuff. Free patterns are a great way to try a new designer out before making a purchase, they're perfect for adding some variety to your pattern stash without spending money, and they're just super fun... because more patterns = more stuff you get to make. 😁 So the freebies I'm going to talk to you about today are from Peek-a-boo Pattern Shop . I love Peek-a-boo patterns. I've made a few of them for my boys and have tested a few as well. I feel like the instructions are mostly geared towards beginners, so any skill level can be successful with her patterns. I've really en...

Getting Dressed for Halloween!

Honestly, Halloween was never my favorite holiday. It was just a day where some people dressed up. I don't particularly care for dressing up, so I haven't since I was a little girl. But... I have two sweet boys now. And one of them LOVES Halloween. So I'm participating in all the costume sewing, fun holiday-themed tee making, and Halloween-themed blog tours, and am actually really enjoying it! 😉 Today is my day to share on the DIY Halloween Costume Blog Tour hosted by Seams Sew Low . Okay... so I'm actually just sharing some Halloween-Themed tees, but they're so fun! I promise to show a picture of their costumes too! Daniel loves ghosts, pumpkins, costumes, candy, scary stuff, Halloween Decorations, everything Halloween related. I don't know where he gets it, but he loves the holiday. So, I have happily now made him 4 costumes in his life, and for the last two years, I've made him a couple of Halloween-themed shirts. So, for my day on the DIY Hal...
