The Annelaine Mark

I've been into color-blocking lately. It's a really fun way to use solids, small scraps, and custom fabrics to keep the cost down. Also, if you want to use only solids, you can use color-blocking to make something totally cool and NOT boring.

Solid tees have their place, but my nearly 5 year old doesn't want to wear solids all the time, and I don't blame him! There are so many fun prints out there, and fun looks... why would he want to wear a plain ol' blue shirt when he could have something much more fun?

So when I saw the Mark Tee, I knew I had to try it, and I knew I had to try one of the color-blocked options! I really liked this color-blocked option the best. It is a little different from other recent sews, and I knew I could make Daniel happy.

We pulled out a bunch of solids and looked at them. We picked these three: coral, navy, and gray.

I think it turned out so nice! While this wasn't my inspiration photo for making this, I did find this photo of a shirt using the same colors, so I saved it! It is super cool, and so is Daniel's! Finding a shirt with the same colors used reinforces to me that we have good taste ... Daniel and me, that is! 😉

So... Onto Some Information About the Pattern:

This is a child's pattern available in sizes 6 month - youth size 20! WOW! There is also a men's version available in sizes 34 (chest)- 64!

So, you could make this pattern for almost anyone! 💓 It includes a solid bodice, a color-blocked bodice (with two pieces), and a color-blocked bodice (with three pieces). You can sew it with long sleeves, short sleeves, or as a tank top. The sleeves can be hemmed or banded. The bottom can be hemmed or banded. The shirt can be made with a round neck (crew neck) or as a v-neck. There is also an optional patch pocket for the tee. So you have quite a few options for sewing this pattern! Just look at that line drawing! 😍

The pattern is drafted for knit fabrics. It is good to use a fabric with good recovery (such as a ribbed knit or cotton lycra) for the bands.

Daniel's Shirt:

As you can see, I chose to use the three sections color-blocking for Daniel's shirt. I used navy for the top and bottom bodice section, with navy sleeves, and coral for the center insert. I decided to use gray for the cuffs and the pocket piece. I am really excited about how it turned out, and he really likes it too!

For Daniel's shirt I used cotton lycra for everything. I added some interfacing to the back of one pocket piece to help it hold its shape well and to make it easier to stitch.

The cotton lycra I used came from Elevated Fashion Fabrics. They have really good prices on solids! You can't beat them! 😄
