The Athina Kakou Meg Top and Dress

I've sewed a few Athina Kakou Patterns, and I'm really loving them. I think Athina's sense of style must be at least somewhat similar to mine, because I LOVE pretty much every pattern she has designed. They are really pretty to me! 💓

So when she asked if I would test the Meg Dress & Top I didn't even hesitate. I really love it! Unfortunately, I did not have time to test the latest version of the top, due to my vacation and other things to which I had already committed, but I'll just say that the final version must be amazing, because I was so happy with Version 1... Improving on an already good thing means a great thing, right?

Let's talk about this pattern:

This pattern is drafted for woven fabrics. You can sew it either in hip-length top length or in dress length. It is a fairly quick sew because of the style. It has dolman sleeves, which are quicker and have a different fit than set in sleeves. There are optional turn up cuffs (I believe these were added in later version of the test). There is a tie belt to pull the waist in for a very flattering fit. The dress length has the option of adding pockets as well. Who else loves pockets in dresses?😍 The dress length is midi-length. The neckline is simple and finished with a facing. There are bust darts for a great fitting top.

Fabric Choices:

Many types of woven fabrics are acceptable for this pattern. You can choose a cotton or chambray for a super easy to sew, more structured top or dress, or you can choose a lighter weight more drapey fabric for a dressier, really beautiful look! I chose a lightweight cotton fabric for mine... mainly because I had been eyeing this fabric for a while trying to decide what I could make with it. When I tested this pattern, I decided that it would be perfect. I think I bought all that my Hobby Lobby had left, which unfortunately was not enough for the dress, but hey, now I have an awesome lemon top! 🍋

My top might have looked a bit better if I had not already worn it all day when we took these photos! It needed to be ironed again! 🙈🤷

Wearing the Meg:

The Meg is the perfect spring and summer top! Whether you sew it as a dress or as a top, it could be styled different ways to be appropriate for different occasions! In a drapey fabric, it could be really dressy. A dress could be beautiful with hose and heels for a church. The top could be worn with turned up jeans for a casual, everyday look, or with dressy pants or capris for a dinner date! The cotton I used does give a more structured look, which in my opinion, does make my top a bit more casual. But it's perfect for hot summer days of running errands, spending time with my kiddos, or even lunch with a friend! 😉

The Meg Dress and Top is a very cute pattern and quite a classic style! 💓 I love it, and have no fear that it'll go out of style! I love sewing things that I'm sure will stand the test of time! Trendy things are fun, but I like knowing I'm spending time on things that I'll continue using year after year. This is another thing I love about Athina Kakou Patterns!

Free and Easy... Sewing the Agnes by Halla!

I love trying new things when it comes to sewing. I love learning new techniques, how to do things different ways, and figuring things out. For the most part, I also enjoy trying new-to-me pattern designers. This was my first ever pattern by Halla  - the AGNES . Yep, I downloaded it a long time ago when it released, but this was my first time ever making it! I downloaded it with intentions of trying it because it was so popular. It may have been popular because it's a FREE pattern (you can get the code to download it in the Halla Facebook Group ), or it may have been really popular because it's FREE and REALLY AWESOME. This blog tour gave me a chance to find out for myself! I participated in this blog tour put together by Kate of  Sewing from Scratch ... the idea is that we would all sew the same pattern, but make it our own. If we love it as is, we sew it as is. If we want a cute bow (Gwen😉), we add a cute bow, if we want to make all the adjustments to get our perfect f

New Athletic Set - ALD fabrics

Every month, Amelia Lane Designs is featuring a new fabric of the month. The featured fabric type is discounted throughout the entire month! It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! And, the best part is, every time I make something new from athletics, I get motivated to move and exercise!   **Disclosure: I have included affiliate links in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I decided to
