Every now and then you have to try something a little different. Right? I haven't ever really had a dress like this... the kind with the little thin straps. And I'm not 100% sure that it's really "my thing," but I really like it anyway!

The second I saw this new fabric by Amelia Lane Designs, I got this idea in my head. I had only one yard of this beautiful print to work with, so I was a bit limited with what I could do. Initially, I planned to make a top, but with the large scale of the print, I was worried that you wouldn't really be able to see the print, so I settled on a dress. There are not many dresses I can cut from one yard, but then I remembered seeing this one on the Wardrobe by Me website. This is the Wardrobe by Me Carma.
Despite the fact that I've never owned a dress with straps like these, I decided to take a chance and sew it! I modified the pattern a tad. The pattern instructions call for finishing the neckline/ top of the dress with either FOE (fold over elastic) or lingerie elastic. I had some fold over elastic, but it was completely the wrong color, so I decided to change it up and use binding instead. It worked well for me!
The Pattern:
This is the Carma Camisole pattern. It can be made in either top length or dress length. According to the tutorial, the top is finished with either lingerie elastic or fold over elastic. I used binding instead. The bottom is hemmed. It went together very quickly, and was very easy to sew.
Sewing The Dress:
As I mentioned, this pattern does not take long at all to put together. I think I made the whole dress in under an hour. It was very easy to sew, and the pattern was easy to understand!
Styling the Pattern:
When I think of "camisole," I think of something that I wear under other things. I've never really been one to wear just a camisole out by itself. With this being a dress and a really pretty print, I feel like I could wear it out... Maybe? I think it's a perfect base layer... maybe I need a red short sleeve cardigan to go over it? I love it regardless! I also think this pattern could be amazing for sleepwear! Super comfy, and really pretty!!
