The Peek-a-Boo Darcy Romper

Y'all, I love rompers. I have hardly made any recently though. Luke has been working on potty training, and they seem less convenient for that. Some of them take longer to sew than a pair of shorts. And sometimes, Luke doesn't want to wear them (I have no idea why). Those reasons paired with the fact that he has hand-me-down rompers from Daniel have deterred me from making him many.

But... when I saw the Peek-a-Boo Darcy, I absolutely COULD NOT pass it up! It's ADORABLE, and has plenty of options to make it a super useful pattern!

THE OPTIONS included in This Pattern:

This pattern includes sizes newborn all the way to size 12. It includes several bottoms options - bummies, shorts, pants, or a skirt. The shorts, pants or skirt can be made with or without pockets. The straps can be sewn to the front bib and fasten at the back, or can be sewn at the back and fasten to the front bib. The straps can fasten to the front with snaps, buttons, or cute knot ties can hold them in place. For the pants version, there is an option to add inseam snaps.

A Romper and Potty Training:

I know what I've said... "Rompers are not the easiest for potty training toddlers." However, it recently occurred to me that I'm not sending him to the bathroom by himself anyway yet. I'm still going with him and pretty much helping him with everything. So how much harder would it be for him to wear a romper? It's actually not! I just unsnap the front bib and it pulls down just the same as shorts would.

SEWING THE ROMPER

I had this idea in my head that just because it's a romper, it would take longer to sew than a pair of shorts. Okay... maybe it took a TINY bit longer, but these rompers were super, super fast! I bet I spent less than an hour on each of them! Everything went together easily and smoothly! I really enjoyed the process of sewing these! It was fun, and they're SO cute!

He's Happy With Them!

I didn't know what to expect, because he's developed opinions! Some days he does not want to wear a romper. And he doesn't even like some of the rompers that I made for his big brother. He refuses to wear my favorite one I made for Daniel! He's a picky little kid! But to my delight, he actually likes both of these! I think he likes the sea animals one because we went to the beach recently and talked a lot about the ocean and animals that live there. Then, he just likes the other one (dog on a surfboard).

Versions of the Pattern I Made:

I made two rompers during testing. First I made the bummies version. This version is for knit fabrics only. It does not have pockets. I made the size 2T because he does still fit perfectly into this size range. The fit is good.

The second romper I made was the shorts version. Because he was at the upper end of the 2T size range, I decided to bump him up to a size 3 because I wanted to use this woven fabric for it. It fits very nicely, and he has some growing room!
