You may have seen that Amelia Lane Designs has stocked athletic fabrics a few times. Depending on the fabric type, fabrics are really wonderful for making leggings, exercise tops, sports bras, or even bathing suits.
I had the opportunity to sew their supplex before here, but this was my first time making "active wear" with any of their fabrics!

I chose to make the 5 out of 4 Ninja Leggings, and the 5 out of 4 Resolution Tank!
The Leggings:
This was my second pair of leggings to make ever. And it was my first time using this fabric type - this is TACTEL!
The leggings pattern was awesome for a few reasons! I thought the fit was really good. I don't think this pattern has as much negative ease as my other leggings pattern, and I do like the fit. You do need a 4 way stretch fabric with at least 50% stretch in both directions. There are several different cut lengths included in this pattern (2", 5", and 7" shorts, pedal pushers, capris, ankle length, and long). There are rise options (high rise, mid rise, low rise, extra low/ maternity). Then there is a gusset piece for movement (and it's easier than it sounds 😉). Optionally, you can add in a little ID/ key pocket.
Finally, my very favorite thing about this pattern is the price! It's FREE!!!
The Top:
This is also a 5 out of 4 pattern - it's the Resolution Tank. It has a racerback, and includes lengths for a bra top and a tank top. The tank top has the option of using a curved hemline and a banded hem option. The bra top uses elastic at the bottom. I made a muslin of the bra top, but ended up sewing the tank. The bra top is nice, and could be perfect for making swimwear, a leisure sports bra (I sleep in these sometimes), or even something for light exercise, such as yoga, but I do not believe it would be ideal for running (for most people).
The tank top has some positive ease. It's a fairly loose and flattering fit. I am comfortable wearing it, and I think this fabric was nice for it!
I was slightly disappointed when I finished my top because of my binding! I used the binding measurements included in the pattern, however, I feel like with the fabric I used, they could have been a little longer. I'll definitely adjust that next time because you can see some pulling/ puckering. Another adjustment that I think I'll make next time is possibly just try using bands rather than binding. Bands would make the back racerback piece broader, and I might like that better.
Overall, it's a good pattern! I just wish I had added bands/binding to my muslin to get a better idea of what I wanted or what would work best with this fabric type!
Um... and they match my shoes!
So funny story... these aren't even really my shoes! ha! My tennis shoes were from somewhere between the 8th and 10th grade and were falling apart! Y'all that puts them somewhere around 16 years old 🤣. Did you know I HATE shoe shopping?
My great aunt had these shoes that were in great condition, and my mom somehow ended up with them. So these are my inherited tennis shoes that match my new outfit! I think she'd be happy to see that they were getting some use. Also, she was really fun, and if she were still here, I can guarantee you she would want some blue pants too! 😉
The FABRIC:
On to the BEST PART! The fabric, of course!! This fabric type is called TACTEL and is available here. It is 89% Nylon and 11% Spandex. It feels and sews kind of like Supplex that I've used in the past. It's kind of cool to the touch and comfortable to wear! Obviously the weight of the fabric is good enough for leggings, but also light enough for tops. You can make anything from it!!
I really love it! So head to Amelia Lane Designs and grab all the colors!
