The Seamwork Neenah

I've been kind of looking at this pattern for a while. I have resisted making it, however, because I never liked turtlenecks. The thought of a turtleneck took me back to those turtlenecks I hated so much when I was a little girl. I didn't really like things touching my neck, and some of them were just too tight.

And I probably would have continued resisting this pattern, had I not gotten my hands on this beautiful ribbing. And ALL I could think about was how this beautiful ribbing would be so pretty sewn up with this pattern

I was going to have to get over myself and try a turtleneck. And I'm kind of glad I did.

This Fabric:

This beautiful ribbing is one of the new fabrics stocking this week at Amelia Lane Designs. This is a beautiful burgundy/ plum color, and it's just so amazing in person. It's seriously beautiful!

I had not used this type of ribbing before. This was my first time! When I ordered it, I was thinking it would be super stretchy with not much recovery, but this is actually amazing quality. I was happily surprised to learn that, while it does have a lot of stretch, it also has pretty awesome recovery. Like I kind of want it in every color to have on hand for bands and cuffs!

The Pattern:

This is SEAMWORK NEENAH. As I mentioned, I've been looking at this pattern for a while. The slim fit of the dress, and classic look of the turtleneck got my attention, even if I didn't like turtlenecks personally.

Seamwork patterns are drafted with a C sewing cup size, meaning that the difference from the high bust and full bust is 3". Many sewing patterns I use are drafted with a B sewing cup size.

If you're not familiar with sewing cup size verses bra cup size, the two are figured differently, and your sewing cup size absolutely doesn't have to match your bra cup size. Your bra cup size is measured by taking the difference in your underbust from your full bust.

It's important to understand the sewing cup so that you can appropriately choose your base size and figure out how to adjust the pattern to fit your body.

I chose to make a size small, looking at my measurements. While my full bust measurement would have fit into the XS size, I was afraid that the XS would have not left enough room for my shoulders, since I knew that the pattern was drafted for a sewing cup size C. I knew that the high bust measurement for the XS would be smaller than my high bust measurement. So, to ensure that my high bust fit the pattern measurements, because this is important in making sure you get a good fit in the shoulders, I chose a size SMALL knowing I might need to make some pattern adjustments.

Since my sewing size cup is a B and the pattern is drafted as a C, so I knew I should need a small bust adjustment. However, when I made the ACE top, I did a small bust adjustment, and I love the fit, but I also felt like it may have not been entirely necessary since it was so fitted. Since this dress also had negative ease at the bust, I opted to skip the small bust adjustment and see how I liked the fit. And, maybe the fit would have been better had I adjusted my pattern, but honestly, I'm not disappointed, and I love it!

I love the fit, I love the style, and the dress is going to be a favorite this year. I'm super happy with how it turned out!

Would I Make It Again?

YEP! The turtleneck doesn't even bother me. Maybe it's the soft fabric? Maybe I just tolerate things better now? I don't know. 🤷 But I like the dress, and would for sure use the pattern again. I definitely recommend it with a ribbed fabric, such as this one. I also think it would be amazing in a light ponte or something similar!

It really is a nice pattern!

So... check out the fabric!

Free and Easy... Sewing the Agnes by Halla!

I love trying new things when it comes to sewing. I love learning new techniques, how to do things different ways, and figuring things out. For the most part, I also enjoy trying new-to-me pattern designers. This was my first ever pattern by Halla  - the AGNES . Yep, I downloaded it a long time ago when it released, but this was my first time ever making it! I downloaded it with intentions of trying it because it was so popular. It may have been popular because it's a FREE pattern (you can get the code to download it in the Halla Facebook Group ), or it may have been really popular because it's FREE and REALLY AWESOME. This blog tour gave me a chance to find out for myself! I participated in this blog tour put together by Kate of  Sewing from Scratch ... the idea is that we would all sew the same pattern, but make it our own. If we love it as is, we sew it as is. If we want a cute bow (Gwen😉), we add a cute bow, if we want to make all the adjustments to get our perfect f

New Athletic Set - ALD fabrics

Every month, Amelia Lane Designs is featuring a new fabric of the month. The featured fabric type is discounted throughout the entire month! It's so nice if your favorite fabric type is featured or one that you've just been wanting to try.  This month, the featured fabric is Athletics! I LOVE the athletics from ALD! And, the best part is, every time I make something new from athletics, I get motivated to move and exercise!   **Disclosure: I have included affiliate links in this post. If you choose to purchase a pattern using my link, I will receive a small commission of the sale at no additional cost to you.** This Set:  For the top, I used a fabric called " Sportivo ." This is a nylon/ spandex blend. It can be used for athletic tops, sports bras, and even swimwear. I LOVE this fabric !  For this top, I used the Marin from Sew A Little Seam . This is a swim pattern. I planned to sew a crop top version with this for an exercise tank, but when I finished, I decided to
