It's been a bit since I've pattern tested for Scotty. Leah bought some royal blue fabric several weeks ago for me to make a tee shirt for Scotty, so when I saw the pattern test by Wardrobe by Me, I decided that it was the perfect time to make him a couple of new shirts.
Wardrobe by Me is releasing both the short sleeve "Classic Tee" and the long sleeve "Breton Tee." They are both classic designs, but have some differences setting them apart from one another.
The Classic Tee:
The Classic Tee is your regular short sleeve tee shirt design. It's designed for jersey fabric with or without stretch. The neckline should be made using a ribbed fabric (or something with good stretch and recovery).
It is drafted in sizes 2XS-3XL (27.5" to 45" Chest). The height for the pattern is drafted based on size (and ranges from 5'4" for the smallest size to 6'2" for the largest size). The design is a "classic" fit - not slim, but not boxy. It is a straight fit and easy to add or remove length, if necessary.
For Scotty, I sewed the XS, based on his chest measurement. The XS is drafted for a height of 5'6", but he is not quite that tall yet, so I removed about 1.5" from the length.
His shirt is made from cotton lycra, with a cotton lycra neckband. I found that the fabric I used for his neckband was pretty stretchy, and ended up removing a little length from his band for it to lay nicely. Perhaps if I had used a ribbed fabric, the neckband length would have been perfect.
The Breton Tee:
The Breton Tee was a new style for Scotty. It is a men's slight boatneck. The fit is similar to the classic tee, but not exactly the same. It is a completely separate pattern.
It also is drafted to be made with jersey fabric with or without much stretch. You do not need any ribbing or fabric with lycra for the neckband, because the boat neckline on this shirt is just turned under and hemmed. I hemmed it with my coverstitch, and it lays very nicely.
It is also a straight fit design, making removing length easy. If you're not certain how much you need to remove, you can sew it, and just cut length off from the bottom before hemming.
For the first shirt, I didn't remove any sleeve length, but we rolled them shorter just for pictures. The pattern fit was changed a bit in the smaller sizes, so his first Breton tee fits him larger than the 2nd. We decided to leave the extra sleeve length, in hopes that this one fits well next year!
For the second shirt (the blue one), I removed an inch from the sleeve and about 1.5" of length from the body of the shirt, like I did for the Classic Tee.
I also used a cotton lycra fabric for this shirt. This is the one Leah picked out before! I'm anxious to try this pattern again with a less stretchy jersey. I'll be keeping a look out for good jersey fabrics!
We like the fit. Although the neckline was a new men's style for me, I like it, and it fits him well.
Both Tees will be on sale for release:
